Chapter 6 - AwakeningTwo days later, the sterile scent of the hospital room felt different.

The harsh emergency lights had been dimmed, replaced by the soft, warm golden glow of morning sunlight filtering through the blinds of the private recovery suite.

I sat beside the hospital bed, holding Claire’s hand in mine. Her skin was still pale, but the color was slowly returning to her cheeks, and the rhythmic, steady beep of the heart monitor assured me that the crisis had finally passed.

The antidote administered by Dr. Bennett had successfully neutralized the remaining toxins in her system, and federal authorities had officially locked down every asset belonging to Julian and Vanessa, ensuring they would spend decades behind bars with no possibility of parole.

Slowly, Claire’s eyelids fluttered.

She let out a soft, groaning sigh, her fingers twitching slightly within mine.

— Mason? — she whispered, her voice raspy and weak.

I leaned over, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss against her forehead, tears of sheer relief spilling over my eyelashes.

— I’m right here, sweetheart. I’m right here.

She blinked a few times, adjusting to the light, before panic suddenly flashed in her eyes.

— The babies... are our babies okay?

— They are perfect, — I smiled, my voice thick with emotion. — Three healthy, beautiful babies. They’re resting safely in the elite nursery just down the hall, waiting for their mother to come home.

Claire let out a long, shuddering breath of pure relief, closing her eyes as a single tear escaped down her cheek.

— I was so scared, Mason... I thought I’d never see them—or you—again.

— It’s over now, — I promised her, squeezing her hand with fierce, protective devotion. — The people who tried to hurt us are gone forever. No one will ever touch this family again. As long as I breathe, you and our children are safe.
