Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeAt 8:30 PM, as the spring sun dipped below the Long Island horizon, painting the sky in sweeping tapestries of indigo and gold, the private terrace was illuminated by dozens of soft, twinkling fairy lights.

Marco raised his champagne glass toward our table, his deep baritone carrying cleanly across the quiet grounds.
"To Don Nicolo and Donna Maya Bandi!" Marco toasted with deep, genuine pride. "The sovereign leaders who built an empire with unbroken strength, truth, and eternal love!"
"To Nicolo and Maya!" the entire terrace echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, dozens of crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
Nicolo raised his glass, taking a slow sip of fine wine, holding Maya tight against his beating heart under the vast, open sky.
The acoustic band began playing a slow, romantic melody that drifted through the quiet evening air, mixing with the gentle sound of the ocean waves crashing against the stone pier below.
Nicolo took her hand, guiding her out onto the center of the stone terrace under the twinkling fairy lights, sweeping her body into a smooth, effortless turn beneath the stars.
"Do you know what I thought when you pulled that gun from your apron, Maya?" Nicolo murmured into her dark hair as they danced under the stars.
"What did you think?" Maya asked, looking up into his dark eyes.
"I thought that I was looking at the most breathtaking, dangerous woman in the world," Nicolo revealed softly, his hand tightening around her waist. "And I decided right then that I was going to marry her."
Maya rested her head comfortably against his broad chest, feeling his heart beat strong and steady beneath his tuxedo, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of her soul.
There were no Ukrainian mercenaries shooting through cafe glass. There were no fake apologies spoken over spilled coffee. There were no secret lives lived in fear.

The hesitant, clumsy waitress was dead forever. The sovereign matriarch had claimed her throne.
And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the arms of the man who loved every inch of her body and soul, holding her head high, Maya knew that her life, her heart, and her future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
