Chapter 7 - The Empire We BuiltSix months after the trial, the skyline of downtown Chicago looked entirely different through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the top-floor executive suite at Moretti Global Holdings.

The Vance Foundation had been completely restructured, rebranded, and converted into a legitimate charitable trust dedicated to helping victims of financial abuse and corporate corruption—with Elena Vance-Moretti serving as its chairwoman.

In the center of the sprawling, modern office, Elena stood looking out over the city, holding a cup of hot green tea.

The heavy oak door opened softly, and Luca Moretti stepped inside. He had removed his suit jacket, his white dress shirt rolled up at the elbows, looking less like a feared mafia don and more like a powerful, visionary CEO—which, legally and operationally, he now was. The Moretti syndicate had transitioned into a legitimate corporate powerhouse, merging construction, logistics, and philanthropy into an untouchable empire.

Luca walked up behind her, wrapping his arms securely around her waist, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder.

“The state attorney general just signed off on the final asset forfeiture transfer,” Luca murmured against her hair. “Your father’s former estate in Winnetka is officially ours. What do you want to do with it? Turn it into a parking lot?”

Elena smiled, leaning back against his warm chest. “No. Let’s turn it into a shelter for runaway brides and abused women. Let them have a place to heal before they start building their own empires.”

Luca chuckled, turning her around gently in his arms so she was facing him. His slate-gray eyes were warm, steady, and filled with a profound, unshakeable devotion.

“You really are something else, Elena,” Luca whispered, his fingers gently brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear. “You walked out of a nightmare, into my car, and ended up owning half of Chicago.”

“I didn't own it alone,” Elena reminded him softly, placing her hands against his chest, feeling the steady, strong beat of his heart. “We built it together.”

Luca pulled her close, capturing her lips in a deep, fierce, passionate kiss that tasted of victory, freedom, and an unbreakable bond forged in fire and rain.

The men who had tried to buy and sell her were locked away in concrete cages, forgotten by the world they had tried to rule. And out of the ashes of her father’s nightmares, Elena had forged a kingdom where no one would ever dare tell her who she belonged to again.
