Chapter 7 - A New HorizonThe Harrington Gala returned a year later, though the city had renamed it the Founders’ Gala, scrubbing the disgraced family’s name from the annals of local history.

I stood in front of the full-length mirror in the penthouse dressing room, smoothing down the fabric of a deep emerald gown that shimmered under the warm vanity lights. There were no bruises on my wrists, no hidden threats lurking in my phone, and no fear whispering in the back of my mind. The architecture of my life was entirely my own design, built on truth, resilience, and unshakeable strength.

A knock sounded at the door, and Damiano entered. He was dressed in a classic black tuxedo that fit his broad shoulders to perfection, his silver-dappled hair catching the light. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw me, his dark eyes softening with an expression of pure, unfiltered adoration.

"Breathtaking," he whispered, crossing the room to stand behind me, his hands resting gently on my shoulders as we looked at our reflections side by side in the glass.

"Are you ready to face the ballroom?" I asked, turning slightly to look up into his eyes. "Last time we were there, I was running for my life."

"This time," Damiano said, leaning down to press a warm, tender kiss to my temple, "you’re walking in as an equal partner, a brilliant architect, and the woman who owns every room she enters."

We rode the private elevator down together, stepping out into the glittering light of the grand ballroom where chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow across marble floors that no longer held any ghosts. As we walked through the double doors, conversations paused for a fraction of a second—not out of shock or scandal, but out of sheer respect.

He didn't grip my elbow; he simply offered his arm, and I slid my hand through his, our fingers interlacing naturally. For the first time in my life, I wasn't hiding behind anyone, and I wasn't running away. I was standing beside the man who loved me without conditions, ready to step into a future that was entirely bright, beautiful, and free.
