Chapter 7 - The Sovereign Queen of Her Own EmpireOne year later.

The private rooftop terrace of our new penthouse overlooking the Manhattan skyline buzzed with the gentle, sophisticated murmur of legal partners, financial benefactors, and close friends celebrating the grand reopening of Carter-Callahan Global—now legally rebranded exclusively as Carter Enterprises.

The spring breeze carried the scent of blooming magnolias and fresh coffee.

I stood near the glass railing wearing an emerald-green silk dress, holding a cup of espresso in one hand while using my other to gently rock a stroller where a bright-eyed, laughing one-year-old boy named Leo reached eagerly for the afternoon sun.

Leo didn't have to worry about hidden medical trusts, stolen genetic reports, or cold, calculating fathers. He was healthy, fiercely protected, and surrounded by a fortress of legal and financial security that no man could ever tear down.

Julian walked over, handing me a final dossier with a triumphant grin plastered across his face.

"It's officially done," Julian announced, leaning against the railing beside me. "Dominic Callahan was sentenced this morning to twelve years in a federal penitentiary with no possibility of parole for financial laundering, wire fraud, and conspiracy. His assets have been liquidated, and the court has transferred seventy percent of the remaining corporate equity directly into the Leo Carter Trust fund."

I took the dossier, flipping it open to scan the federal judge's signature. A quiet, profound sense of peace washed over me.

"And Vanessa?" I asked without looking up.

"Two years in a minimum-security facility in Connecticut, followed by mandatory community service," Julian chuckled, taking a sip of his drink. "She tried to pin the entire offshore laundering operation on Dominic, but the email timestamps proved she drafted the Panama routing codes herself. They're turning on each other like wolves in a cage."

I closed the dossier, handing it back to him, and looked down at my son, who had grabbed hold of my finger with a surprisingly strong, determined grip.

"Good," I murmured softly.

"So, Madam Chairwoman," Julian asked, looking down at Leo with a warm smile before turning his gaze back to me. "What’s next on the agenda? Global shipping acquisition? European market expansion? Or are you finally going to take a vacation?"

May you like

I smiled, looking out past the gleaming glass towers of Wall Street toward the open waters of the New York harbor where cargo ships moved steadily across the horizon, carrying trade, commerce, and future horizons.

"No vacations yet, Julian," I said, lifting my espresso cup in a silent toast to the skyline. "First, we finish rebuilding the empire. And this time... I’m the one holding the crown."
