Chapter 5 - The Federal Raid on Wall StreetTwo days later, the financial world experienced an earthquake that registered all the way from Wall Street to the shipping docks of Rotterdam.

At 10:15 a.m., federal marshals accompanied by IRS criminal investigators stormed the gleaming glass tower of Callahan Maritime. Armed with a federal search warrant signed by a U.S. District Judge based on the comprehensive evidentiary packet Julian and I had submitted from the safe house, agents seized servers, locked down executive accounts, and placed Dominic Callahan’s chief financial officers under immediate arrest.

At that exact moment, Dominic was sitting in a high-level emergency press conference he had hastily organized at the Halston Grand Hotel, attempting to preemptively spin the narrative regarding my "tragic disappearance."

Live television cameras broadcasted his face across every major news network as he stood at the podium in a tailored navy suit, looking every bit the grieving, panicked husband.

"My wife, Clare, is suffering from a severe, undocumented medical crisis," Dominic told the sea of reporters, his voice trembling with manufactured grief. "I am pleading with the public—if anyone has seen her, please contact my private security team immediately. My primary concern is her safety and the health of our unborn child..."

Suddenly, a television producer in the back of the press room shouted over the chatter: "Hold on! Look at the breaking news banner on Bloomberg!"

Dominic stopped mid-sentence, frowning as the cameras shifted away from his face toward the massive digital display screen mounted behind the podium.

The banner blazed in stark, angry red letters:

FEDERAL RAID AT CALLAHAN MARITIME: EMBEZZLEMENT, ASSET LAUNDERING, AND FRAUD INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY. CEO DOMINIC CALLAHAN NAMED AS PRIMARY TARGET.

Color drained completely from Dominic’s face. He grabbed the edge of the podium so hard his knuckles turned translucent. He stared at the screen in sheer, unadulterated disbelief as reporters began shouting a chaotic barrage of hostile questions.

"Mr. Callahan! Is it true your company has been laundering cartel funds through Panama?"

"Mr. Callahan! Federal investigators have seized your private trust accounts—how do you respond to allegations of financial fraud?"

"Mr. Callahan! Where is your wife?!"

Dominic bolted from the stage, knocking over a microphone stand as his private bodyguards shoved their way through the aggressive wall of journalists, shielding him toward the exit elevators.

From a secure, undisclosed apartment in downtown Boston, watching the live feed on my laptop while holding my newborn son sleeping peacefully in a bassinet beside me, I took a slow sip of coffee.

"He looks panicked," Julian remarked, walking into the room carrying a fresh stack of legal briefs.

"That's just the beginning," I replied coldly, not taking my eyes off the screen. "He thought he could isolate me, break me, and throw me away like a toy. He forgot that the toy came with a hand grenade."

Julian grinned, tossing a document onto the coffee table. "Well, your grenade just blew up his entire board of directors. His primary investors are pulling out their capital by the millions. Stocks in Callahan Maritime dropped thirty-four percent before noon."

"What about the custody hearing?" I asked, looking up.

"Judge Vance—ironically no relation to the corrupt doctor—has granted our emergency ex-parte custody petition based on the verified medical tampering and financial conspiracy evidence," Julian said triumphantly. "Dominic has been legally barred from approaching you, the baby, or any residential property associated with your name. Furthermore, a federal bench warrant has been issued for his arrest if he fails to appear for questioning within forty-eight hours."

I looked back down at my son, who let out a soft, sweet sigh in his sleep. The nightmares of the Manhattan penthouse, the cold threats whispered in the library, and the terrifying race against time in the freezing pre-dawn hours felt like a lifetime ago.

The trap Dominic had laid for me had become his own prison.
