Chapter 3 - The Strip of AuthoritySection 9 of the Moretti Family Charter was the nuclear clause—a corporate failsafe created fifty years ago to strip any executive of voting authority in the event of systemic financial fraud, reputational destruction, or moral breach.

Dominic pulled a second set of gold-sealed documents from his coat, setting them before the table.

"Effective at eight o'clock tomorrow morning," Dominic announced, reading the formal injunctions:

EXECUTIVE SUSPENSION: Vincent Moretti is formally suspended from his role as Chief Executive Officer of Moretti Global Logistics, pending a full federal forensic audit.

ASSET SEIZURE: All discretionary corporate credit lines, executive housing allowances, and offshore vessel accounts registered under Vincent’s name are frozen.

TITLE TRANSFER: The fifteen-million-dollar River Forest mansion is formally seized under civil fraud proceedings, with full title ownership reverted directly to Claire Bennett-Moretti.

Vincent thrashed forward, his hands grasping the edges of the mahogany table. "GRANDFATHER! YOU CAN'T DO THIS! The board meeting with the South American maritime consortium is in two days! If I am suspended, the stock value drops thirty percent!"

"Then let it drop, Vincent," I spoke softly from the sofa, holding my sleeping baby. "A company built on stolen trust deserves to drop."

Vincent turned to me, his severe face contorted in an agonizing mix of panic, betrayal, and sudden, pathetic desperation. He dropped onto one knee beside my sofa, reaching out to grab my hand, but I pulled my fingers back cleanly, avoiding his touch.

"Claire... please!" Vincent pleaded, tears of pure terror welling in his gray eyes. "I made a mistake! I was arrogant! I will fire Sophia tonight! I will sell the house! Just don't destroy my legacy!"

I looked down at the man who had ignored my messages four hours ago, the man who had texted me It's just a house. I can afford it.

"You didn't make a mistake, Vincent," I whispered, my hazel eyes holding an unshakeable, sovereign truth. "You made a choice. And now, you get to live with it."

Anthony tapped his cane against the floor once more. "Marcus," he called out.

The heavy double doors opened, and Marcus Vance—the family’s chief security director—stepped inside with four broad-shouldered officers.

"Escort Miss Reynolds off the property," Anthony ordered flatly. "Seize her corporate keys, her security access badges, and her company vehicles. If she steps within five hundred yards of Claire or this estate again, file immediate criminal trespassing charges."

"NO! VINCENT! HELP ME!" Sophia shrieked as Marcus Vance caught her arm, dragging her kicking and screaming down the grand hallway in total, public disgrace.

Vincent sat frozen on his knees beside my sofa, staring at the floor as his broad shoulders slumped in absolute, catatonic defeat.
