Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeAt 7:00 PM, as the spring sun dipped below the North Carolina horizon, painting the sky over the pine forests in sweeping tapestries of indigo and gold, the private officer's club terrace was illuminated by dozens of soft, twinkling fairy lights.

Tom and I sat together at a white-linen table near the marble balustrade, holding two crystal glasses of sunlit champagne, looking out over the peaceful parade grounds stretching before us into the unbroken horizon.
Captain Marco Reyes and General Hayes stepped up to our table, raising their glasses with warm, genuine smiles.
"To Major Maya Vance and Major Thomas Vance!" Marco toasted with deep, genuine pride, announcing our newly confirmed promotion ranks. "The sovereign siblings who proved that true strength cannot be broken by fire, greed, or time!"
"To Maya and Tom!" the entire terrace echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, dozens of crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
I took a slow sip of my champagne, resting my hand over Tom’s broad wrist over the tablecloth, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.
There were no cruel stepmothers screaming on stages or swinging steel chairs. There were no silent, coward fathers locking children in cold basements. There were no tears swallowed in dark bedrooms.

The helpless, abused girl was dead forever. The sovereign Major had claimed her throne.
And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, beside the brother who had bled for me and fought for me, holding my head high, I knew that my life, my heart, and my future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
