Chapter 5 - The Fall of the StepbrotherCody looked up at the porch, his eyes locking onto my white cast and tactical sling, his face twisting into an ugly, sneering mask of pure hatred.

"You!" Cody screamed, taking three fast, aggressive steps up the brick stairs toward me. "You did this! You brought your military thugs to ruin my family! You're just a bitter, crazy bitch who couldn't stand seeing my mom happy!"
THWIP!
Tom stepped out from behind the pillar, swinging his silver cane down with lightning speed, catching Cody across his shins.
Cody let out a high-pitched, pathetic shriek, collapsing onto his knees flat on the wet brick steps, clutching his bruised legs.
"Watch your mouth when you speak to a Captain, Cody," Tom spoke, his baritone dropping into a freezing, lethal octave that made the younger man freeze in terror.
Captain Marco Reyes walked out onto the porch, holding an official federal indictment document.
"Cody Vance," Marco announced cleanly, his voice carrying cleanly across the wet driveway to where the neighbors stood watching. "You are officially charged with Federal Wire Fraud, Money Laundering, and Receipt of Stolen Property exceeding seven hundred thousand dollars."
Cody’s jaw sagged open in complete, horror-stricken panic. "Stolen property...?! I didn't steal anything! My mother gave me that money!"
"Your mother derived those funds directly from the unauthorized dissolution of Sarah Vance's estate," Marco corrected flatly. "And under federal asset forfeiture covenants... every vehicle, clothing line investment, and luxury gift purchased using those funds is subject to immediate seizure and liquidation."
Two local police officers stepped up the stairs, forcing Cody’s arms behind his back, clicking heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
CLICK. CLICK.
"No! NO! DAD! HELP ME!" Cody wept pathetically, his frantic cries echoing through the neighborhood as he was dragged down the wet stairs flat across the pavement, forced into the rear of a police cruiser in chains.
Standing near the edge of the driveway, clutching a worn leather suitcase, wearing a threadbare coat, stood my father, Richard.
He had been stripped of his corporate credentials, his bank accounts frozen, his home seized by the federal trust. He had nowhere to go, no money left in his pockets, and no friends left in the city.
He looked up at Tom and me standing on the elevated porch, his eyes filled with a pathetic, groveling plea for mercy.
"Maya... Tom..." Richard whimpered, his voice shaking against the cold rain. "Where... where am I supposed to go? I have nothing left..."
Tom looked down at our biological father with a look of profound, absolute disdain.

"You have the exact same thing you gave us twenty years ago, Richard," Tom declared flatly, every word dropped like a slab of cold granite into the rainy air. "Nothing."
Tom turned his back on him, guiding me gently through the oak doors as the federal agents locked down the property, leaving our father standing alone in the pouring rain.
