Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Almond TartOn Christmas Eve in December 2026, one year after that fateful night behind the burgundy curtain, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Boston was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Clara Bennett Heritage & Holiday Integrity Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers and towering Christmas trees.
On a private silver tray at the head table rested a fresh, golden almond tart baked by my own hands using my father's original recipe.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark bespoke charcoal tuxedo, his broad six-foot-three frame squared, his handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, was Nico Vale.
Beside him stood Donna Clara Bennett-Vale, looking breathtaking in a floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated her full, radiant figure, her hazel eyes glowing with complete happiness.
Around my neck hung my late father's restored silver signet pendant.
Nico adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"One year ago, I sat behind a velvet curtain in a bakery, watched an arrogant world tell the most brilliant woman in Boston that she didn't belong, and found my soul," Nico announced to the silent room, his storm-gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable devotion as he looked down at me. "And on that night, she shattered a dark conspiracy, claimed her sovereign birthright, and brought my entire world back to the light."
Nico held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.
