Grace stood near the marble balustrade wearing a breathtaking, floor-length ivory silk dress that celebrated every curve of her figure. Her dark hair fell in glossy waves over her shoulders, her hazel eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable victory.
Down on her left hand rested her original platinum wedding band—the ring I had retrieved from the empty crib—now set beside an eight-carat flawless emerald-cut diamond ring I had bought her to celebrate our son's baptism.
Nine-month-old baby Leo sat comfortably in my broad left arm, wearing a miniature white silk baptism suit, giggling happily as he held a wooden toy sailboat Marco had carved for him.
I wrapped my broad right arm around Grace’s waist, pulling her back flush against my solid chest, pressing a sweet, lingering kiss against her temple under the bright spring sun.

"I was thinking about the words I carved into the plaster," Grace answered softly, turning in my arms to rest her hand against my broad chest. "When I sat in the dark and prayed that my husband would read them."

"I read every letter, Grace," I promised, leaning down to press my lips softly, fiercely against hers in a deep, unhurried kiss. "And I will answer them for the rest of my life."
