Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary in Lake ShoreBy 1:30 AM, the armored Maybach convoy glided through the iron security gates of my private, high-security estate in Lake Shore, far away from the dark memories of the main Rossi mansion.

The modern glass-and-stone estate was warm, firelit, and filled with the soothing scent of lavender, cedarwood, and fresh white lilies.
A team of top private obstetricians and pediatric specialists from Johns Hopkins stood waiting in the master suite, executing immediate, comprehensive health checks for Grace and three-month-old baby Leo.
I sat on the velvet sofa beside the bed, wearing a plain linen shirt, my broad hand holding Grace’s thin, delicate fingers, my storm-gray eyes never leaving her face for a single second.
Dr. Vance finished his examination, stepping back with a warm, reassuring smile.
"Mrs. Rossi is suffering from severe vitamin deficiencies and physical exhaustion," Dr. Vance reported gently. "However, thanks to her incredible strength and maternal care, baby Leo is fully healthy and growing well. With proper nutrition, warmth, and rest, both mother and child will make a complete recovery within weeks."
Grace closed her hazel eyes, letting out a long, shuddering sigh of pure peace.
Once the medical team packed their equipment and stepped out into the quiet hallway, the master suite fell into a deep, serene stillness, punctuated only by the soft crackle of the fireplace.
I leaned down, pressing my lips softly, reverently against Grace's forehead, then against the small, warm head of my son sleeping in her arms.
"I failed you, Grace," I whispered, my voice thick with a raw, agonizing guilt. "I stayed away too long. I let her trick me."
May you like
Grace reached up her hand, her soft fingers gently framing my carved cheek, pulling my face down until our eyes met.
"You came back for me, Dante," Grace whispered softly, her hazel eyes shining with a radiant, unshakeable love. "You found my message on the wall. You heard my voice in the dark. You are our protector... and you brought us home."
