Chapter 5 - The Fall of Teresa SantosTeresa Santos fell flat onto her knees right on the floorboards beside her husband, weeping hysterically, grabbing at Lord Vance’s tailored coat.

"Lord Vance! Please!" Teresa sobbed, her manicured fingers shaking in pathetic, groveling terror. "I was tricked! Hector lied to me! I'm Valeria's mother! Tell her to forgive me! Tell her to let me stay in our house!"

Lord Vance stepped back, pulling his coat away from her reach, looking down at her with a quiet, freezing disdain.

"You spat on your daughter's injured face while she lay in a coma, Mrs. Santos," Lord Vance spoke, his deep voice carrying a velvet authority that cut through her sobs like a cold razor. "You called her a liar while her bones were broken by the man you protected."

I looked down from my hospital bed at the woman who had spent twenty-eight years choosing an abusive monster over her own child.

"You told me you'd rather bury me than believe a liar like me, Mom," I rasped out softly, tears burning my eyes, but my heart standing firm, unbroken, and sovereign. "Now... you can bury your own pride."

Rachel Hayes handed Teresa an official judicial document.

"This is an emergency eviction notice and asset seizure decree executed by the Cook County High Court," Rachel announced. "The Santos residence in River Forest was purchased using funds stolen from Valeria's trust. You have two hours to clear your personal clothing. You are permanently barred from coming within one mile of Valeria Santos for the rest of your life."

Teresa let out a guttural, frantic shriek of pure heartbreak, burying her face in her hands on the floorboards as court bailiffs dragged both her and Hector out through the heavy double doors in total, public disgrace.

The hallway fell quiet, leaving only the soft hum of the rain and the steady, peaceful beat of my heart monitor.

Lord Vance stepped up to my bed, holding my hand gently in his broad palm, offering a warm, genuine smile that lit up his severe features.

"You are safe now, Valeria," Lord Vance promised softly. "Your true life begins today."
