Chapter 2 - The Audit of the TitanI stood in my own penthouse in tailored trousers, completely stripped of the illusion of control I had spent fifteen years building.

For nine years, I had treated Claire as a quiet, compliant ornament. I believed she was an ordinary woman who stayed at home, tended her blooming white orchids, read classical literature, and waited patiently for me to return from my international business trips. I believed my wealth, my power, and my reputation made me untouchable.
I had no idea that my wife was a brilliant corporate strategist who had methodically turned my own arrogance into my absolute ruin.
"You... you worked with Claire?" I rasped, stepping toward Madison, my hands clenching into tight fists. "You used me?!"
"Claire didn't work with me, Daniel," Madison corrected flatly, stepping back, her dark eyes flashing with a cold, mocking sharpness. "Claire used me. She knew from day one that I was Victor Sterling's sister. She let me into your bed because she knew that as long as I was keeping you distracted with champagne, expensive watches, and fake affection... you would never notice her transferring your corporate assets out from under your feet."
DING-DONG!
The loud, resounding chime of the penthouse elevator echoed through the foyer.
The heavy brushed-steel doors slid open smoothly.
Stepping into the living room, flanked by two uniformed Federal Marshals and four senior board members of Morgan Enterprises, was Marcus Vance—my chief corporate counsel and long-time personal advisor.
Marcus didn't look at Madison. He walked straight up to me, his face pale, gaunt, and bloodless, holding a thick red-bound binder.
"Daniel," Marcus spoke, his voice trembling with deep, genuine panic. "An emergency board meeting was convened at eight o'clock this morning. Under the authority of the Claire Bennett Morgan Irrevocable Trust, your executive authority as CEO of Morgan Enterprises has been suspended effective immediately."
"SUSPENDED?!" I roared, my voice echoing off the concrete walls. "I built Morgan Enterprises! I own forty-five percent of the company!"
"You owned forty-five percent, Daniel," Marcus corrected with a bitter, broken sigh. "Claire exercised the secondary debt-for-equity conversion clause from her father's original 2017 investment agreement. Because you committed corporate fraud by using company funds to purchase Miss Sterling's luxury Miami villa... your equity has been diluted to less than twelve percent."

The room spun violently before my eyes.
The multi-billion-dollar empire I had spent my life building had been dismantled in forty-eight hours, without a single shouting match, without a single scandal in the press, and without Claire ever raising her voice.
