Chapter 6 - The Gala at the DrakeIn early December 2026, the grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel in Chicago was packed to absolute capacity for the annual Bennett-Moretti Global Civic & Health Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing an magnificent charcoal bespoke tuxedo, was Vincent Moretti. His broad six-foot-three frame was squared, his severe, handsome face radiating an unshakeable, sovereign authority and a profound, quiet humility.
Beside him stood my father, Arthur Bennett, while I stood at the center of the stage looking radiant in a floor-length emerald silk maternity gown that celebrated my beautiful, seven-month pregnant belly.
Vincent adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Ten weeks ago, I was a man who believed that power was measured in the territory he commanded," Vincent announced to the silent room, his storm-gray eyes shining with deep, genuine emotion as he looked at me. "And then I nearly destroyed the only true treasure God ever gave me... my wife, and our unborn daughter."
Vincent held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To Claire!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
