Chapter 3 - The Purge of the Moretti TowerAt 9:00 AM the following morning, the fifty-story Moretti Global Headquarters on Michigan Avenue was in total, historic upheaval.

The grand executive boardroom on the top floor was packed to capacity for an emergency assembly of the Midwestern Maritime Council & Moretti Board of Directors.
Over forty prominent shipping magnates, board members, and syndicate capos sat around the massive African mahogany table.
Sitting at the head of the table, wearing a charcoal bespoke suit, his face gaunt, his eyes rimmed with red, was Vincent Moretti.
Beside him sat Arthur Bennett—Claire’s seventy-year-old father, a dignified, white-haired titan of industry whose face bore an unyielding, fierce maternal protection.
And standing at the side doors were six federal marshals holding heavy legal files.
Sophia Reynolds sat at the far end of the table in steel handcuffs, guarded by two officers, her face pale, hollowed out by twelve hours of federal interrogation.
"Gentlemen," Vincent announced, his deep baritone carrying flatly through the hushed boardroom. "For ten years, I allowed internal corruption and familial lies to blind me to the true foundation of this enterprise. Today, we execute full restitution."
Marcus Vance stepped forward, sliding court-stamped legal documents flat across the table:
THE COMPLETE ASSET TRANSFER: Transfer of fifty-one percent controlling common voting stock in Moretti Global Logistics directly into an irrevocable trust under the sole name of Claire Bennett-Moretti and her unborn daughter.
THE SOPHIA REYNOLDS INDICTMENT: Formal delivery of federal charges against Sophia Reynolds for Grand Larceny, Corporate Wire Fraud, and Accessory to Aggravated Assault Resulting in Critical Injury.
THE RESTRUCTURING: Immediate, permanent termination of all Reynolds family shipping contracts across Illinois and Indiana.
The forty board members stood up in unanimous agreement, completely severing all ties with Sophia’s family on the spot.
Lead Marshal Miller stepped forward, holding heavy steel enforcement notices.
"Sophia Reynolds," Marshal Miller declared coldly. "You are under arrest."
Sophia thrashed and wept hysterical, groveling pleas as marshals dragged her out of the Moretti Tower in total, public disgrace, surrounded by news cameras capturing her downfall for the morning news.
Vincent didn't even look at her as she was dragged away. He signed the final asset transfer document, pushed his chair back, and looked directly into Arthur Bennett's eyes.
"The assets are hers, Arthur," Vincent said softly, his voice thick with emotion. "Everything I own... every dollar, every pier, every ship... belongs to Claire and my baby. I ask for nothing."

Arthur Bennett looked at the feared Don with a cold, solemn pity.
"You gave her everything money can buy, Vincent," Arthur spoke softly. "Except your trust, your protection, and your heart. And those are the only things she ever needed."
