Chapter 5 - The Reconciliation at Beacon HillThree months after the boardroom takeover, the Chicago media storm had settled into a watchful, respectful hush.

Moretti Global Logistics was successfully restructured under my executive chairmanship, its criminal ties severed and its capital redirected into global maritime safety and maternal healthcare initiatives.
Sophia Reynolds had vanished from Chicago entirely, her luxury assets seized under civil restitution laws, fleeing to Europe with her son Lucas after Vincent officially filed for absolute divorce and terminated all financial support.
And Vincent Moretti?
He had moved into a modest, forgotten brownstone three blocks away from our home in Beacon Hill, Boston. He didn't demand access. He didn't threaten litigation. He simply waited.
Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, he stood across the street from Emily’s elementary school, holding a red leather sketchbook, waiting quietly until school let out.
The first time Emily noticed him, she tugged on my sleeve as we walked home.
"Mommy, why does that nice man with the gray eyes always wave at me?" she asked innocently.
I looked across the street, seeing Vincent standing by a brick wall, his hands clasped together, his eyes shining with unshed tears as he offered a timid, respectful wave.
"That's Vincent, sweetie," I said softly, kneeling down to look into my daughter's brilliant eyes. "He's a friend of mine... and he cares about you very much."
"Can I say hello to him?" Emily asked.
My heart caught in my throat. I looked at Vincent's hopeful, broken face across the street.
"Go ahead, sweetheart," I whispered.

Emily dropped my hand and skipped across the cobblestone street toward him.
I watched as Vincent dropped immediately to his knees, his broad shoulders shaking as Emily walked up to him, handing him a small drawing she had made in art class. I saw him gently touch her dark hair, saw his lips move in quiet gratitude, and saw the first genuine, peaceful smile touch his face in seven years.
