Chapter 4 - The Corporate TakeoverAt 9:00 AM sharp the following morning, the grand executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Moretti Global Holdings in downtown Chicago was packed to absolute capacity.

Forty board members, regional directors, and senior legal partners sat around the massive mahogany table.

The atmosphere was electric with panic. Stock prices had plummeted nine percent since the live broadcast at the Symphony Center. Headlines across the country screamed: "Chicago Syndicate Don Abandoned Daughter at Birth; Wife Reclaims Empire."

The heavy double oak doors swung open.

I walked into the boardroom wearing a tailored charcoal-grey pantsuit, my dark hair pulled back in a sleek bun, carrying a leather briefcase. Behind me walked Madison Parker and two armed federal marshals.

Sitting at the head of the table was Vincent Moretti.

He looked like a man who hadn't slept in a decade. His face was gaunt, his eyes hollow, his dark suit rumpled. But beside him on the mahogany wood sat a single, pristine legal document bound by red ribbons: The Moretti-Bennett Irrevocable Trust & Equity Transfer.

Vincent didn't look at his board members. He looked only at me.

He picked up a heavy Montblanc pen with a trembling hand, looked at the signature line, and without a single word of hesitation, signed his name across every page, transferring fifty percent voting control of his multi-billion-dollar empire directly to his wife and daughter.

He slid the document across the table toward me.

"It's done, Claire," Vincent whispered, his voice raspy and hollow. "You and Emily now hold absolute majority control of Moretti Global."

I didn't smile. I didn't celebrate. I simply picked up the document, verified the seals, and slipped it into my briefcase.

"Thank you, Mr. Moretti," I said formally. "Your administrative cooperation is noted."

Primary board director Arthur Sterling slammed his hands onto the table, standing up in absolute fury. "Wait a minute! You can't just hand over half of our conglomerate to a woman who walked out of this city seven years ago! What about our expansion into the European ports?! What about the syndicate councils?!"

I turned my head slowly, locking my eyes onto Arthur Sterling with a cold, terrifying gaze that mirrored the one Vincent used to wear.

"The syndicate councils are adjourned permanently, Mr. Sterling," I announced, my voice ringing cleanly off the glass walls. "As of this morning, Moretti Global Logistics is officially transitioning into a fully legitimate, publicly traded maritime infrastructure firm. Any executive who attempts to continue off-ledger operations will be handed over to the Department of Justice before the close of business."

Arthur Sterling staggered backward, staring at me as if I were a ghost. He realized then that the woman standing before him wasn't the quiet, compliant wife of the past—she was a sovereign titan who had come to collect her crown.
