Chapter 2 - The Audit of SilenceBy 3:00 AM, the storm outside had settled into a steady, quiet drizzle over the Long Island estate.

Inside the primary study, three miles of encrypted digital networks were humming. Marcus Vance, Luca’s chief security director, stood before the broad mahogany desk, laying out thick leather binders bound by red seals.

Luca sat behind the desk, his charcoal suit jacket removed, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The cold, distant Don was gone; in his place was a sovereign king preparing to execute a complete, uncompromising audit of his household.

"Report, Marcus," Luca commanded.

Marcus tapped a tablet screen, projecting internal security logs onto the wall display.

"Don Luca," Marcus reported grimly. "We reviewed the driver logs from last night. Your primary chauffeur, Antonio, did not remain at the Italian restaurant as you instructed. At 7:30 PM, he received a direct priority override code from your cousin, Julian Ferraro."

Luca’s storm-gray eyes narrowed into razor-sharp slits. "Julian?"

"Julian instructed Antonio to leave Mrs. Ferraro at the restaurant, claiming you had redirected all security details to an emergency dock inspection in Brooklyn," Marcus revealed. "Furthermore, Julian has spent the last five months systematically intercepting Mrs. Ferraro's mail, including four personal invitations sent to you by the Board of Trustees at St. Bridget’s Hospital inviting you to attend the opening of the Nora Ferraro Pediatric Wing."

Luca’s hand clutched the edge of the mahogany desk until the wood groaned under the pressure.

Julian Ferraro had been pushing for months to take over the syndicate's commercial real estate division—the very division that held the lease on the land beneath St. Bridget’s Hospital. Julian had assumed that by keeping Luca ignorant of Nora’s work, he could quietly orchestrate a land foreclosure on the hospital to build a private casino complex, while driving a wedge between Luca and his wife.

"Where is Julian right now?" Luca asked, his voice dropping into an icy, frozen register.

"He is currently at the Grand Metropolitan Club in Manhattan, Don Luca," Marcus replied. "Hosting a celebration with the commercial development board."

Luca stood up slowly. He pulled a heavy matte-black Sig Sauer pistol from his desk drawer, checked the magazine with a sharp click, and slid it into his shoulder holster.

"Call the medical team to monitor Nora," Luca ordered flatly. "Marcus, prepare the armored convoy. It's time my cousin learns what happens when someone touches my wife's legacy."
