Chapter 7 - The Garden of New BeginningsTwo years later, the gardens of our new home in the rolling hills outside Chicago were blooming with white roses and wild lavender.

I sat on a wooden porch swing, watching two-year-old Leo chase a golden retriever across the emerald lawn while bursts of bright toddler laughter echoed through the afternoon air.

Footsteps approached softly from behind, and strong, warm arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me back against a familiar, solid chest.

“He’s getting faster every day,” Adrian murmured, resting his chin comfortably on my shoulder, inhaling the scent of my hair. “I might need to hire a private security detail just to keep up with him.”

I smiled, leaning back against him, turning my hand over to reveal my left ring finger.

The old platinum band was gone. In its place rested a brand-new, custom-designed ring—simple, unpretentious, forged from recycled white gold, set with a single, flawless diamond that represented not an empire or an obligation, but a new foundation.

“If you hire anyone, make sure they know how to run in sneakers,” I teased gently.

Adrian chuckled, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to my temple. His phone buzzed in his pocket—a sharp, distinct ringtone he had assigned specifically for incoming corporate emergencies.

Without breaking his embrace, Adrian reached into his pocket, pulled the phone out, looked at the screen, and switched it immediately to silent, sliding it face-down onto the porch railing.

I raised an eyebrow, turning my head to look up at him. “That was your chief of operations. It sounded urgent.”

Adrian smiled down at me, his dark eyes shining with absolute, unwavering clarity.

“Let it wait,” he said, tightening his arms around me and pulling me closer against his heart. “The only emergency I care about is right here.”

I leaned into his embrace, closing my eyes as the warm afternoon breeze rustled through the garden leaves.
