Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Flaming LegacyBy 2:00 AM, the top-floor penthouse executive command suite at The Ashford Tower overlooking Central Park was operating under an impenetrable, non-negotiable tactical lockdown.

Outside the private elevator banks, twenty armed security operators from Vance Tactical Security guarded every corridor. Inside, I sat in a high-backed velvet armchair, wearing a clean silk robe, holding a cup of warm chamomile tea while Bridget Colton—Gideon's lead corporate prosecutor—processed the final filings.

Across the broad black granite table sat Gideon Ashford, alongside Lieutenant Colonel Marcus Vance, head of his private security detail.

Bridget Colton opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers and wiretap transcripts flat onto the table before Gideon and me:

"Vivian," Bridget spoke crisp and fast, her sharp blue eyes holding surgical professional fury. "The forensic audit into Preston Vance, Cassidy Vaughn, and the Vance Logistics Equity Deal is complete."

I leaned over the granite table, my dark hazel eyes burning with an unshakeable, diamond-hard resolve. "Explain it, Bridget."

Bridget tapped the digital displays:

THE ARSON & PREMEDITATED HOMICIDE DOSSIER: High-definition 4K footage recovered from an archived municipal traffic camera showing Preston Vance locking the emergency fire door of the chemical warehouse from the outside thirty seconds before the explosion.

THE FORTY-MILLION-DOLLAR EMBEZZLEMENT: Proof that Preston Vance and his mistress, Cassidy Vaughn, systematically diverted $40 million from Vivian’s late father’s estate into offshore accounts in Panama to fund their upcoming equity deal.

THE SOVEREIGN HERITAGE TRUST: Certified probate deeds confirming thirty-one-year-old Vivian Bennett-Vance as sole sixty percent controlling common stock equity holder over the entire Ashford-Vance Logistics Network—making her Preston's ultimate boss.

My hands tightened around my teacup until the porcelain creaked.

"He thinks I'm going to hide at home tomorrow night because of Cassidy's backless dress mandate," I rasped out, every word falling like an iron block into the quiet room.

Gideon walked around the granite table, dropping flat onto one knee right in front of my chair.

The feared billionaire titan whose name commanded terror across Wall Street reached out, taking my small, bandage-wrapped hands into his broad, calloused palms, pressing his lips gently against my fingers.

"You aren't hiding, Vivian," Gideon swore, looking into my eyes with pure, humble reverence and absolute, protective rage. "Tomorrow night, you wear the gown. You let them see your scars. Because those scars aren't your shame... they are the mark of a queen who survived his fire."
