Chapter 6 - The Final Chapter

Two years had passed since the night I stood on the stern of a sinking nightmare in the middle of the Atlantic.
It was a brilliant, sun-drenched Saturday afternoon in Cancún. The sky was an endless, cloudless blue, and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean sparkled peacefully against the white sandy coastline.
I stood on the private terrace of a coastal villa overlooking the ocean, wearing a light summer dress, a glass of sparkling water in my hand. Life had settled into a rhythm of absolute peace and purpose. As the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Alcázar Logistics, I had expanded our operations globally, earning a reputation in the corporate world as a brilliant, unyielding negotiator who could spot a trap a mile away.
My father walked out onto the terrace, handing me a small, heavy envelope bearing the official seal of the federal penal system.
“It arrived this morning,” Ernesto said gently, watching my face.
I looked down at the envelope. I already knew what it was. For two years, Rodrigo had exhausted every appeal, every legal maneuver, and every desperate petition from his maximum-security cell. His sentence had been upheld: twenty-five years without parole. His parents had received similar terms for their roles in the conspiracy.
I opened the envelope, pulled out the formal legal notice, and walked over to the glass railing of the terrace. I didn't feel anger. I didn't feel fear or satisfaction or vengeance. I felt only lightness—the profound, clean lightness of a chapter completely finished.

I folded the paper, dropped it into the recycling bin by the door, and turned back to the sparkling expanse of the sea.
The ocean that had once been chosen as my graveyard was now just part of the horizon—vast, beautiful, and completely under my command.
