Chapter 2 - The Departure Lounge ArroganceAt Suvarnabhumi International Airport, thirty miles east of the city center, the morning sun beat down on the soaring steel-and-glass terminal.

Inside the exclusive Miracle First Class Lounge, Ethan Bennett sat in a plush leather armchair, wearing an unbuttoned designer linen shirt, a glass of iced scotch in his hand. Beside him, his mother, Susan, was sipping black coffee, her silk scarf draped over her shoulders, while his twenty-six-year-old sister, Chloe, flicked through duty-free luxury catalogs on her tablet.
On the glass table between them lay my leather passport holder, my physical credit cards, and my gold wedding band, which Ethan had slipped off my nightstand while I slept.
Susan let out a satisfied, bitter laugh, taking a delicate sip of her coffee.
"She's probably waking up right now," Susan smirked, her sharp eyes gleaming with cruel victory. "Realizing she doesn't have a single Thai baht to her name. No phone to call her useless mother, no passport to get through airport security, and no flight ticket."
"It was the only way to teach her a lesson, Mom," Ethan said, swirling his scotch, though a slight, nervous twitch touched his right jawline. "Claire was getting out of hand. Refusing to merge her private savings into the company account... acting like she was independent. She thinks because she's quiet, she can hold out on us."
"She’s a nobody, Ethan!" Chloe chimed in arrogantly, adjusting her sunglasses. "Her family has been dead for ten years. She lives off that pathetic little editorial job. By nightfall, she'll be begging the hotel manager to let her clean rooms just to pay for a phone call to you."
Ethan pulled his smartphone from his pocket, opening his primary banking application.
A smug, satisfied grin spread across his face as he looked at the screen. "Well, her independence didn't save her. The three-hundred-thousand-dollar wire transfer I authorized from our First National credit line went through at seven A.M. Our new shipping containers from Shanghai are cleared. When we land in Chicago tomorrow, Bennett Import-Export will be operating at peak capacity."
"Did you text her the note?" Susan asked, leaning back against her leather cushion.
"Left it right on her pillow," Ethan chuckled, picking up my leather passport holder and tossing it casually into his carry-on briefcase. "'Figure it out yourself.' Let's see how many days she lasts in Bangkok before she crawls back to Chicago on her knees."
ANNOUNCEMENT: " Thai Airways Flight TG 662 to Tokyo Narita, connecting to Chicago O'Hare, is now commencing final boarding at Gate D4..."
Ethan stood up, buttoning his jacket, sliding his luxury watch onto his wrist. "That's us. Let's go home, ladies. The trash has been left in Thailand."
As the three of them walked toward the gate, Ethan’s phone vibrated violently in his palm.
He looked down at the screen. It was an urgent alert from his Chief Financial Officer in Chicago, Marcus.
Ethan swiped the green button, pressing the phone to his ear as he walked down the carpeted jetway. "Marcus? What is it? I'm boarding the flight."
"Ethan! Thank God you picked up!" Marcus panicked, his voice echoing frantically over the line. "Where are you?! Something catastrophic just happened to our master credit facility!"
Ethan stopped dead in the middle of the jetway, causing a line of business-class passengers behind him to halt. "What are you talking about? I just executed the three-hundred-thousand-dollar wire to the Shanghai suppliers two hours ago."
"THE WIRE WAS RECALLED!" Marcus shrieked. "First National just executed a complete asset freeze on every Bennett Import-Export account! They cited a Section 9 Emergency Acceleration Notice issued by a private trustee group called Sterling Capital!"
Ethan’s brow furrowed in sudden, sweating confusion. "Sterling Capital? Who the hell is Sterling Capital?! Our credit facility is with First National!"
"First National was just the servicing bank, Ethan!" Marcus yelled over the line. "Sterling Capital is the primary owner of our debt! And their legal team just called in the entire one-point-four-million-dollar principal balance! We have four hours to pay... or federal marshals will seize our warehouses at noon!"
Ethan’s face went paper-white. The phone nearly slipped from his sweat-slicked fingers.

"What... what about the Shanghai inventory?" Ethan stammered, his baritone dropping into a pathetic, cracking squeak.
"Seized at the port!" Marcus sobbed. "Ethan... who did you piss off in Asia?!"
