Chapter 4 - The Recovery of the LedgerAt 9:00 AM the following morning, a heavy, cold rain battered the high glass windows of the Ferrara Financial Headquarters on Wall Street.

Inside the private, soundproof executive suite on the top floor, I sat behind a massive mahogany desk wearing a tailored emerald silk blouse and dark trousers provided by Nico’s private stylist.

Beside me stood Nico, wearing an immaculate black suit, holding a steaming cup of coffee, while his chief cyber-forensics director, Marcus, connected my father’s seized master drive to an encrypted terminal.

"The drive uses a military-grade 256-bit triple encryption matrix, Donna Nora," Marcus explained, adjusting his glasses. "Without the primary biometric key and passphrase, it will take our supercomputers three years to brute-force the files."

I reached out my hand, my fingers hovering over the glowing mechanical keyboard.

Twelve years of living in terror beneath Edmund Ashford's roof had burned every detail of his private operation into my memory.

I typed a twenty-four-character alphanumeric string without a single second of hesitation:

A-S-H-F-O-R-D-1-9-9-4-M-A-R-C-O-E-A-S-T-R-I-V-E-R

CLICK.

The green decryption bar swept across the screen, unlocking seven hundred gigabytes of hidden corporate data.

Detailed financial ledgers, offshore wire transfers, human trafficking logistics, and encrypted video recordings from Terminal 4 flooded the primary wall monitor in brilliant, undeniable clarity.

Marcus gasped in total, speech-bound shock. "My God... it's all here. Every judge he bribed, every secondary syndicate boss he paid off, and the direct audio recording of Edmund offering fifty thousand dollars to the hitmen who ran Marco’s car off the East River road!"

Nico stood beside my chair, his dark eyes fixed on the screen as the evidence of his brother's murder was brought into the light of day.

He set his coffee cup down, leaning over my chair, his broad hands coming around my shoulders, wrapping me in a warm, protective embrace.

"You just dismantled three corrupt syndicates in ten seconds, Nora," Nico whispered softly into my ear, his voice thick with deep, unyielding pride.

May you like

I turned my head, looking up into his carved, handsome face, a radiant smile breaking across my lips for the first time in my life.

"I didn't dismantle them alone, Nico," I answered softly, touching his jawline. "We did it together."
