Chapter 2 - The Fall of the House of Morrison"Eviction?!" Diane screamed, her voice cracking into a high-pitched shriek. "This is my house! I bought this estate twenty years ago!"

Arthur didn't even look up from his tablet as he tapped the screen. "Correction, Mrs. Morrison. This property was bought using an equity loan underwritten by Vanguard Commercial Bank—a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sovereign Global. Five minutes ago, when Protocol 7 was executed, your loan was recalled due to material breach of corporate ethics clauses."
"You can't do that!" Brendan yelled, slamming his hands onto the table, his knuckles white. "Cassidy, stop this ridiculous joke right now! You're my ex-wife! You're carrying my child! You can't treat my family like this!"
"Your child?" I asked, raising a eyebrow as I took a soft velvet towel offered to me by one of Arthur's security guards. I wrapped it around my cold shoulders, stepping closer to the table. "Two weeks ago, when I told you I was pregnant, you threw five hundred dollars at my face and told me to get rid of it because Jessica didn't want the baggage. Do you remember that, Brendan?"
Jessica pulled back, her eyes darting frantically between Brendan and the black-suited guards standing at the door. "Brendan... what is she talking about? You told me she was just a crazy stalker ex who was faking a pregnancy for money!"
"Shut up, Jessica!" Brendan snapped, his composure completely disintegrating. He turned back to me, his hands shaking violently as he took a step forward, dropping to one knee beside my wet shoes. "Cassidy... please. Look at me. We were married for three years! I made mistakes, I was stressed with work... my mother pressed me into making bad decisions! You know I love you!"
Diane gasped in betrayal. "Brendan! How dare you blame me?!"
"Shut up, Mom!" Brendan roared, turning his panicked eyes back to me. "Cassidy, baby... please. Think of our daughter! We can start over! I'll break up with Jessica right now! I'll take care of you and the baby!"
Jessica let out a horrified gasp, standing up so fast her chair tipped over onto the rug. "You disgusting bastard!"
I looked down at Brendan kneeling at my feet, dripping wet in dirty water, pleading for the very crumbs of mercy he had denied me thirty minutes ago.
"Arthur," I said softly.
"Yes, Miss Sovereign?"
"Has the board been notified regarding Morrison Logistics?"
"Yes, ma'am," Arthur confirmed. "The board of directors convened an emergency meeting three minutes ago. Brendan Morrison has been officially terminated from his position as Director of Operations for gross negligence, insider trading, and corporate embezzlement."
Brendan gasped, falling backward onto his hands. "Embezzlement?! I didn't steal anything!"
"You funneled two hundred and fifty thousand dollars of corporate funds into Meredith Shaw's luxury apartment lease and bought Jessica a diamond ring using company credit lines," Arthur said coldly, flipping a page on his tablet. "Federal marshals are currently reviewing the wire transfers. They will be here in twenty minutes."
Diane collapsed into her chair, clutching her chest, weeping hysterically. "My house... my money... my life..."
"Get out," I said quietly, looking at the three of them.

"Cassidy, please!" Brendan begged, grabbing the hem of my wet towel. "It's Sunday night! It's raining outside! Where are we supposed to go?!"
"Look on the bright side, Brendan," I said, repeating his mother's words with a calm, beautiful smile. "At least you finally get to take a walk."
