Chapter 2 - The Medical SanctuaryAt 3:45 AM, the private medical team dispatched by Robert arrived at my apartment.

Dr. Aris Vance—Robert’s personal physician and a trusted family friend—stepped into the living room accompanied by two female trauma nurses carrying portable diagnostic equipment, ultrasound machines, and sterile wound kits.
While the nurses carefully cut away the torn, blood-stained wedding dress, Dr. Aris conducted a full forensic medical exam, documenting every single contusion, split lip, and laceration across Chloe’s back with high-resolution digital cameras.
"Fourteen distinct impact marks across her upper spine and shoulders, Robert," Dr. Aris reported quietly near the balcony, displaying the digital scans on his tablet. "Subcutaneous hematomas consistent with blunt force trauma delivered by heavy rings or blunt objects. Her split lip required four micro-stitches."
I stood beside the kitchen counter, my hands shaking as I held a mug of chamomile tea, my eyes burning with a hot, unadulterated rage that made my chest heave.
"Did you log the DNA, Aris?" I asked, my voice cutting through the quiet room like a blade.
"Every scrape, every skin fragment under her fingernails, and every drop of blood on that dress has been sealed in forensic evidence bags, Sarah," Dr. Aris confirmed. "The chain of custody is legally bulletproof."
Robert walked back from the balcony, holding a fresh pair of dark trousers and a heavy wool sweater he had retrieved from his car. He looked at the sealed evidence bags resting on the table, then looked at Chloe, who was now resting under a warm fleece blanket on the sofa, her face pale but her breathing steady under the IV pain medication.
"Where is Lewis Dudley right now, Sarah?" Robert asked, his baritone steady and absolute.
"They had booked the Presidential Suite at the Grand Venetian Hotel on South Beach for the wedding night," I answered, pulling up the digital itinerary Chloe had sent me three days ago. "Victoria insisted on staying in the adjoining suite to 'manage the post-reception gifts.'"
Robert pulled out his phone again, tapping the screen to bring up a live architectural blueprint of the Grand Venetian Hotel.
"The Grand Venetian is owned by a subsidiary of Vance Global Real Estate," Robert revealed deadpan, a cold, dark smile touching his lips. "Victoria Dudley thought she was hiding behind luxury hotel doors. She has no idea I own the building."
He turned to his chief security director, Marcus—a broad-shouldered, former Special Forces operative who had just stepped through my front door carrying three leather briefcases.
"Marcus," Robert instructed, "clear the twentieth floor of the Grand Venetian. Cut the private elevators, disable the hallway cameras, and bring Mr. Lewis Dudley and his mother downstairs to the private executive lounge."
"And if they resist, sir?" Marcus asked cleanly.
May you like
Robert looked down at the forensic photos of our daughter’s bruised back displayed on Dr. Aris’s tablet screen.
"If they resist," Robert whispered into the quiet air, "tell them their primary corporate debt bonds were foreclosed five minutes ago."
