Chapter 6 - The Restoration of the HomeThree weeks after the night of the attack, the morning sun shone brightly over Fifth Street as a team of high-end interior designers and security specialists completed the total restoration of Unit 14B at The Grandview Towers.

The heavy mahogany doors had been upgraded with biometric steel locks, the high glass windows reinforced with shatterproof military-grade glass, and the sunlit interior redecorated with bright white lilies, soft cashmere furniture, and breathtaking watercolor paintings.

I stood in the center of the living room, holding a tray of fresh lemonade, watching Sofia move around her home with a radiant, unbroken grace.

Her cheekbone had healed completely, her split lip recovered, and the dark bruises on her arms replaced by a healthy, glowing complexion. She wore a simple white summer dress, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her hazel eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable victory.

DING-DONG!

The front door chime sounded smoothly.

Sofia walked over, pressing the biometric scanner to open the door.

Standing on the threshold, wearing a tailored charcoal suit, carrying a massive bouquet of white orchids and a small velvet box, was Alexander.

"Dad!" Sofia beamed, stepping forward to wrap her arms around his waist.

Alexander held her tight, pressing a sweet kiss against her temple, before stepping into the foyer, handing the white orchids to me with a soft, genuine smile.

"Thank you, Alexander," I smiled, inhaling the sweet scent of the blossoms.

Alexander pulled the small velvet box from his suit pocket, setting it gently into Sofia’s hands.

"What is this, Dad?" Sofia asked, her hazel eyes wide with curiosity.

Sofia opened the box.

Inside lay a magnificent silver pendant shaped like a shield, set with a flawless five-carat sapphire that caught the morning light in brilliant, radiant waves. Engraved across the back in delicate script were the words: UNBROKEN — FOREVER A BROOKS.

Tears of pure, overwhelming happiness sparkled in Sofia’s eyes as she held the pendant against her chest. "Dad... it's breathtaking..."

"It’s a reminder, baby girl," Alexander promised softly, his baritone filled with eternal pride. "That no matter where you go in this world, your father will always be your shield."
