Chapter 3 - The Audit in the FoyerAlexander walked slowly across the marble floorboards. His heavy leather boots clicked sharply against the stone, every step deliberate, unhurried, and terrifyingly calm.

He stopped three feet from the mahogany bar.
Carmen Robles jumped up from her leather chair, her hands shaking violently as she clutched her silk robe against her throat, her arrogant composure crumbling into frantic, sweat-slicked panic.
"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!" Carmen shrieked, her voice cracking into high, pathetic squeaks. "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?! THIS IS PRIVATE PROPERTY! SECURITY! CALL THE POLICE!"
Alexander didn't look at Carmen. His dark storm-gray eyes locked onto Javier Robles, who was trembling behind the bar, his hand frozen near his concealed weapon.
"Take your hand off the grip, Javier," Alexander spoke softly. His voice wasn't loud, but it possessed an unyielding, velvet power that shattered every nerve in Javier's body. "Or I will break your arm in three places before you can pull the trigger."
Javier’s hand flew away from the counter as if he had touched white-hot iron. He dropped flat onto his knees right on the floorboards behind the bar, his hands raised high in total, groveling surrender.
"Please! Don't shoot!" Javier wept, tears of wild, overwhelming panic spilling down his pale cheeks. "Who... who are you?!"
Alexander reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a sealed leather dossier bound by red judicial wax seals, tossing it flat onto the marble coffee table beside the stolen property deeds.
"My name is Colonel Alexander Brooks," Alexander stated flatly. "And the girl you locked in a room, beat, and threatened to kill tonight... is my daughter."
Carmen’s jaw sagged open in total, speech-bound horror. She stumbled backward two steps, her heel catching on the rug, forcing her to grab the edge of a marble pillar to keep from collapsing flat onto the floor.
"Brooks...?" Carmen choked out, her voice barely a dry, raspy whisper. "Alexander... Brooks...? The... the former Commander of Joint Special Operations Task Force 9...?"
"You thought she was defenseless, Carmen," Alexander revealed, every word dropped into the quiet penthouse like a slab of cold iron. "You thought because her mother and I lived apart, Sofia stood alone in this world."
Marcus Vance stepped forward, opening an encrypted military laptop, projecting high-definition legal documents and financial audits onto the massive wall screens of the penthouse.
