Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeEight-year-old Sophie—wearing a yellow sun dress and a crown of white daisies—ran across the manicured green lawn, giggling happily as she chased a golden retriever puppy I had bought her for her ninth birthday.

I stood near the wooden balustrade wearing a clean linen shirt, holding a cup of fresh coffee, watching my daughter with a depth of reverent, quiet joy that filled every corner of my soul.

Commander Vance walked up beside me, holding a glass of sparkling cider, offering a warm, respectful smile.

"She looks happy, David," Vance noted softly, looking out at Sophie playing on the grass.

"She's more than happy, Leo," I answered, turning my eyes toward my daughter. "She's safe. And she knows her daddy will always listen when she speaks."

Sophie ran up the wooden steps of the terrace, throwing her small arms around my waist, resting her head comfortably against my side.

I dropped onto my knees flat on the wooden deck, pulling my daughter close against my broad chest, kissing her soft cheek as she giggled happily.

"Daddy?" Sophie asked softly, looking into my eyes.

"Yes, my sweet girl?"

"Do you know what I wished for when I looked at the brightest star last night?" she whispered, her small face glowing with pure, unadulterated happiness.

"What did you wish for, Sophie?"

"I wished that we could stay right here in this house forever," she smiled, hugging my neck tightly.

I held my daughter tight against my beating heart under the vast, unbroken sky, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.

There were no dark strangers turning doorknobs in the dark. There were no false wives whispering lies in quiet bedrooms. There were no secrets threatening our peace.

The naive, blind husband was dead forever. The sovereign father had claimed his true home.

And standing under the warm, unbroken roof of our sunlit estate, holding my daughter safe in my hands, listening to her silver laughter under the spring sun, I knew that my life, my heart, and my family were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
