Chapter 5 - The Execution of JusticeJulian Sterling let out a guttural roar, drawing a suppressed 9mm sidearm from his coat, aiming it directly at my chest. "OUT OF THE WAY, TEACHER! OR I'LL KILL YOU RIGHT HERE!"

THWIP!

Before Julian’s finger could press the trigger, a high-velocity beanbag round fired by an FBI marksman positioned near the glass terrace struck Julian directly in the center of his chest.

BOOM!

The impact threw Julian backward across the mahogany table, his weapon flying out of his hand and clattering across the tile floorboards as three broad-shouldered tactical operators pinned him flat against the floor.

CLICK. CLICK.

Heavy steel handcuffs locked around Julian’s wrists with an iron snap.

Emily thrashed wildly as two female federal agents caught her arms, forcing her hands behind her back, locking a second set of steel restraints around her wrists.

"David! Please!" Emily wept hysterically, tears cutting clean tracks through her expensive makeup as she looked at me in groveling panic. "He forced me! Julian threatened to hurt Sophie! I did it to protect our daughter!"

Sophie stepped forward beside my leg, looking up at her mother with a calm, piercing clarity that shattered every lie Emily had ever told.

"No you didn't, Mommy," Sophie spoke softly, her small voice carrying across the silent room. "You smiled at him every night while Daddy was lying in the dark."

Emily’s jaw sagged open in total, speech-bound horror. She collapsed flat onto her knees on the carpet, weeping pathetically as federal agents dragged her and Julian toward the executive elevators in chains.

Commander Vance stepped up beside me, dropping a certified federal seizure order flat onto the mahogany table directly in front of the corrupt bank directors.

"The Sterling-Lawson accounts are permanently frozen under federal RICO warrants, David," Vance announced with deep, genuine pride. "Your estate is clean, your record is clear, and you have sole, absolute legal custody of Sophie."

I looked down at my daughter, dropping onto one knee flat on the floorboards, pulling her small, warm frame into my broad arms, kissing her hair as she wrapped her tiny arms around my neck.

"It's over, baby," I whispered softly. "We're safe."
