Chapter 5 - Reclaiming the CrownBy the following week, the Vance dynasty wasn't just crumbling—it had exploded across every major front-page headline in the country.

FALL OF THE VANCE EMPIRE: BILLIONAIRE REAL ESTATE DYNASTY COLLAPSES UNDER FEDERAL FRAUD PROBE.
The financial news networks ran wall-to-wall coverage of the raids on Vance Real Estate headquarters, the freezing of all corporate and personal assets belonging to Viktor and Eleanor Vance, and Julian’s indictment on twelve counts of wire fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy. Sienna had already been dropped by her talent agency, abandoned by her wealthy socialite friends, and was currently sitting in a holding cell awaiting bail hearings she couldn't afford.
And me?
I was sitting in the sunlit corner office of the top floor of Vance Tower—which the federal court had temporarily placed under a receivership managed by my own legal team and forensic accounting firm.
The name on the frosted glass door had already been changed.
Bennett Forensic & Restructuring Group.
"Maya," Sarah said, walking into the office carrying a sleek leather portfolio and a steaming cup of herbal tea. "The federal bankruptcy judge just signed off on the emergency asset restructuring. Because Viktor and Julian attempted to fraudulently transfer corporate assets into private family trusts to evade liabilities, the court has awarded full controlling interest of the remaining solvent properties to the primary aggrieved party."
She paused, smiling warmly.
"Which happens to be you, by virtue of your pre-nuptial asset-protection clause that Julian’s lawyers foolishly forgot to have you waive."
I took the tea from her hands, inhaling the calming scent of chamomile as I looked out the massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the glittering Chicago skyline. The sun was shining brightly, reflecting off Lake Michigan in a brilliant, blinding sheet of gold.
"How are the boys?" I asked, my heart softening instantly at the thought of my sons.
"Sleeping soundly in the executive nursery downstairs," Sarah laughed softly. "Your mother and my sister are taking turns watching them. They’re gaining weight, perfectly healthy, and completely oblivious to the fact that their mother just single-handedly dismantled one of the most corrupt corporate cartels in the Midwest."
A gentle knock sounded at the open office door.
Marcus Thorne stepped inside, holding a thick stack of finalized legal documents and looking remarkably pleased with himself.
"Well, counsel," Marcus said, taking a seat across from my desk. "Julian’s defense team tried to file a motion for plea bargaining this morning. They wanted to trade information on smaller offshore accounts in exchange for a reduced sentence on the fraud charges."
"And what did you tell them?" I asked calmly.
"I told them to lose my number," Marcus grinned. "The DA’s office has more than enough evidence to put Julian away for at least fifteen years without parole. And as for the divorce? It’s officially finalized under default judgment due to fraud, coercion, and concealment of assets. You retain full, unchallengeable legal and physical custody of Leo and Oliver. No visitation rights for Julian unless supervised by a court-appointed social worker—which, knowing Julian, he’ll never bother to request."
I let out a long, slow breath, feeling the last remaining tension leave my shoulders.

The nightmare was over. The trap had snapped shut. And every single person who had tried to destroy me had been buried beneath the very weight of their own arrogance.
"Good," I said quietly, signing the final restructuring document with a smooth, firm stroke of my pen. "File it."
