Chapter 7 - THE DAWN OF A NEW ERASix months later.

The morning sun was shining brightly over Seattle's Elliott Bay, painting the sparkling water in shades of brilliant gold and azure.

I stood on the wide wooden deck of a beautiful waterfront home, holding a warm mug of dark roast coffee, breathing in the crisp, clean Pacific Northwest air.

The past half-year had been a whirlwind of legal triumphs and restorative healing.

Under my direct leadership as Chairwoman and CEO, Parker Logistics had fully recovered from Ryan's embezzlement. The stolen funds were recovered through asset foreclosures on Ryan's accounts, Victoria's luxury properties, and the seizure of Apex Holdings. Marcus Thorne was thriving as my senior strategic advisor, and our international expansion was breaking revenue records across Europe and Asia.

Ryan had been sentenced to twelve years in a federal penitentiary in Pennsylvania, while Victoria Vance received eight years for her role in the conspiracy.

I was finally, completely, gloriously free.

"Hey! Coffee thief!" a cheerful voice called out from behind me.

I turned around to see Maya walking out onto the deck, wearing cozy sweatpants, holding her own mug, her bright smile instantly bringing warmth to my heart.

"I made the pot, so technically it's my coffee," I laughed, wrapping my free arm around my best friend in a tight, loving hug.

Maya squeezed me back tightly, smelling faintly—and comfortingly—of citrus.

"Look at you, Claire Parker," Maya said, stepping back and looking at me with fierce, proud affection. "CEO of a global logistics empire, living in a gorgeous house, and looking happier than I’ve ever seen you."

"I am happy, Maya," I said, looking out over the sparkling bay, feeling a deep, profound sense of peace settling into my soul. "For the first time in my life, I'm living for myself. Not for a husband, not out of fear, but out of pure truth."

My phone chimed softly on the wooden table behind us.

I picked it up and saw a message from Marcus:

Claire, the Q3 earnings reports just came in. We've officially surpassed Dad's highest historical valuation by twenty percent. Everyone at headquarters is celebrating. We miss you back in New York!

I smiled, typing back a quick response:

Save me a slice of cake, Marcus. I'll be home on Monday.

I slid the phone into my pocket, leaned against the balcony railing alongside my best friend, and took a long, satisfying sip of my warm coffee as the morning sun swept across the vast, open horizon.

The game was over.

The truth had won.

And my real life was just beginning.
