Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Stolen BloodlineBy 2:00 AM, the top-floor executive command suite at The Mitchell Tower in downtown Chicago was operating under an impenetrable, non-negotiable tactical lockdown.

Outside the private elevator banks, twenty armed Vance Security operators in dark suits guarded every corridor. Inside, three-year-old triplets Lucas, Maya, and little Sophie were fast asleep in a grand master suite, monitored by an elite pediatric surgical team, resting in warm silk sheets with fresh hot cocoa by their bedside.
In the adjoining executive study, Grace sat in a velvet armchair, wearing a clean wool sweater provided by my staff, holding a mug of chamomile tea while her hands finally stopped shaking.
Across the broad black granite conference table sat me, alongside Senior Corporate Prosecutor Bridget Colton and two federal forensic accounting experts.
Bridget Colton opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers, wiretap logs, and medical registries flat onto the table before Grace and me:
"Ryan, Grace," Bridget spoke crisp and fast, her sharp blue eyes holding surgical professional fury. "The forensic audit into your mother, Evelyn Mitchell, her legal proxy Richard Sterling-Smith, and Amelia Brooks is complete."
I leaned over the granite table, my hands planted flat against the polished surface, my gray eyes burning with an apocalyptic, predatory fire. "Explain it to us, Bridget."
Bridget tapped the digital displays:
THE INTERCEPTED TRUST DOSSIER: Certified banking records proving Evelyn Mitchell and Amelia Brooks systematically diverted $110 million from the Mitchell Family Grandfather Trust—money legally designated for Ryan’s direct biological heirs—into offshore accounts in Liechtenstein.
THE FABRICATED MEDICAL FRAUD: Intercepted wiretaps proving Evelyn Mitchell paid $1.5 million to a corrupt probate clerk four years ago to seal Grace’s medical records, ensuring Ryan never learned of the triplets' birth.
THE SOVEREIGN BLOODLINE TRUST: Original probate charters confirming that three-year-old Sophie, Lucas, and Maya Mitchell are joint sixty percent controlling common equity holders over the entire Mitchell Global Logistics Network upon claiming their paternal trust rights.
My jaw tightened until my teeth nearly cracked.
Grace covered her face with her small, calloused hands, tears of profound relief and three years of buried heartbreak spilling over her fingers.
"She came to my small apartment when the triplets were three months old, Ryan," Grace whispered. "She stood over their cribs and told me if I ever spoke your name in public, she would ruin my family."
I walked around the granite table, dropping flat onto one knee right in front of Grace’s chair.

The broad, muscular titan whose name commanded terror across Midwest shipping routes reached out, taking her soft, work-calloused hands into my broad, warm, calloused palms, pressing his lips gently against her knuckles.
"They used my name to terrorize you, Grace," I swore, looking into her hazel eyes with an unshakeable, diamond-hard resolve. "They built their luxury on your tears and my children's illness. Tomorrow morning at the Mitchell Heritage Assembly... we give our children their empire."
