Chapter 7 - The Kingdom of LightOne year after the night at Northwestern Memorial, the grand stone terrace of our Lake Forest estate was lit by hundreds of soft, twinkling fairy lights for a warm, clear autumn evening.

A small, private gathering of fifty close friends, security staff, and trusted associates sat at elegant white wooden tables set up along the stone patio overlooking the dark, peaceful lake.
I stood near the central marble balustrade wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, holding a glass of vintage red wine, my arm wrapped comfortably around Clara’s waist.
She wore a stunning wine-red silk dress that highlighted her intelligent hazel eyes, her diamond ring catching the golden candlelight, her head resting peacefully against my shoulder.
Mateo walked up to us, holding a small silver tray with two fresh glasses of champagne.
"A toast, Boss?" Mateo smiled warmly, his dark eyes filled with quiet, deep pride.
I took a champagne glass, handed one to Clara, and turned to face our guests.
The chatter around the tables died down as our friends looked up at us with bright, respectful smiles.
"One year ago tonight," I spoke, my deep baritone carrying smooth, calm, and echoing warmly across the quiet lake, "I stood in a hospital corridor with blood on my hands, realizing I was on the verge of losing the only woman who ever truly mattered."
I looked down at Clara, my eyes filled with an intense, unreserved devotion that made her heart leap against her ribs.
"I spent five years believing that power meant controlling businesses, commanding men, and building an empire," I continued, my voice trembling slightly with deep emotion. "I was wrong. Real power is protecting the woman who holds your heart. Real power is standing beside your wife in the light."
I raised my glass high under the autumn sky.
"To my wife, Clara," I swore cleanly. "My queen, my sanctuary, and my home."
"To Clara!" the entire terrace echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, their glasses clinking together in the golden light.

Clara turned her face up to mine, wrapping her arms around my neck, pulling my lips down to hers in a deep, sweet, consuming kiss that sealed our promise under the open sky.
Outside the grand iron gates, the world of Chicago continued to spin, but standing on the sunlit terrace, wrapped in the arms of the woman I had been given a second chance to love, I knew that our home, our peace, and our lives were finally, beautifully, and forever unbroken.
