Chapter 6 - The Unbroken QueenSix months later, the spring sun was shining brightly over the rolling green lawns of our grand estate in Lake Forest, twenty miles north of Chicago.

The fifty-acre property, surrounded by wrought-iron gates, ancient oak trees, and blooming white hydrangeas, sat overlooking the clear blue waters of Lake Michigan.

The cold, arrogant shadows that had hung over our lives for two years were completely gone—replaced by a warm, radiant sanctuary filled with light, fresh air, and deep, quiet peace.

I sat on the wide stone terrace wearing a comfortable linen shirt and dark trousers, working on a tablet, reviewing charitable foundation reports.

Footsteps sounded softly on the patio floor behind me.

Clara walked out into the warm sunlight.

She wore a breathtaking, simple cream silk dress that caught the spring breeze, her dark hair falling in glossy, healthy waves over her shoulders. The small scar near her left eyebrow was barely visible—a faint, beautiful mark of the miracle that had brought us back together.

She looked radiant, healthy, and completely whole.

She walked over to my chair, setting a fresh cup of dark coffee on my table, leaning down to press a soft, sweet kiss against my cheek.

I smiled into her touch, reaching out my broad hand to wrap my fingers gently around her waist, pulling her flush against my side, looking up into her clear hazel eyes.

"How are the Q2 foundation reports looking, Chairman Valente?" Clara teased softly, resting her hand over my shoulder.

"Flawless, Mrs. Valente," I smiled back, resting my cheek against her soft side. "We've funded three new trauma centers across Illinois this month alone."

Clara let out a low, genuine laugh—a sound that filled my entire heart with weightless, absolute joy—and ran her delicate fingers through my dark hair.

I reached into my pocket, pulled out a small velvet box, and opened it gently under the warm sunlight.

Inside rested her original diamond wedding ring—the ring that had caught the emergency room lights six months ago—now fully cleaned, polished, and sparkling like a star.

I took her small, warm hand in mine, sliding the ring back onto her left ring finger where it belonged forever.

Clara looked down at the glittering diamond, tears of pure, unadulterated happiness welling in her hazel eyes, spilling softly down her cheeks.

"No more mistresses, Dominic," Clara whispered softly, looking deep into my eyes.

"No more lies, Clara," I swore back, pulling her down into my arms, kissing her with a deep, sweet, consuming passion that sealed our lives together under the open sky.
