Chapter 6 - The Rose in Gold CoastSix months after the night at Brooks & Lane, a warm autumn sun painted the sky over New York in brilliant shades of rose, gold, and deep sapphire.

The dark, dangerous shadows of my old life were permanently erased.

We moved out of the cramped second-floor apartment above the old bakery, purchasing a soaring stone estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, surrounded by private gardens, ancient oak trees, and high security walls.

Ethan enrolled in an elite private preparatory academy, excelling in his studies and playing on the school's junior rowing team, his health completely restored.

Meanwhile, I took over as the Chief Creative Director of the Sarah Carter Foundation for Pediatric Health—a fifty-million-dollar charitable trust established by Michael to provide free cardiac surgeries, specialized care, and housing support for low-income children across New York.

I didn't count dollars in my wallet anymore. I sat at the head of executive boardrooms, directed charitable capital, and led an organization that saved hundreds of young lives every year.

On a warm, clear Saturday afternoon in late October, the oceanfront terrace of our Greenwich estate overlooking Long Island Sound was decorated with blooming white roses, deep blue silks, and sunlit champagne for a grand celebration.

Over two hundred prominent business leaders, medical directors, corporate partners, and close friends gathered around white-linen tables set up along the stone patio, enjoying fine food and live acoustic music.

I stood near the marble balustrade wearing a breathtaking, floor-length deep blue silk evening dress—a custom evolution of the dress I had stared at in the rain—that draped gracefully over my figure. My dark hair fell in glossy waves over my shoulders, my hazel eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable happiness.

Down on my left hand rested a seven-carat flawless emerald-cut sapphire engagement ring set in platinum.

Michael walked out onto the terrace wearing an immaculate dark tuxedo, stepping up behind me, wrapping his broad, warm arms around my waist, pulling my back flush against his solid chest.

He pressed a sweet, lingering kiss against my temple, his storm-gray eyes shining with an absolute, unshakeable devotion.

"What are you thinking about, my queen?" Michael whispered softly into my ear.

I looked out over the vast, sparkling blue waters of Long Island Sound stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.

"I was thinking about the rain outside the glass," I answered softly, turning in his arms to rest my hands against his broad chest. "When I had twelve dollars in my wallet and thought dreams were luxuries."

May you like

Michael offered a rare, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up his handsome, severe face.

"You were never a dream, Sarah," Michael promised, leaning down to press his lips softly, fiercely against mine in a deep, unhurried kiss. "You were my destiny."
