Chapter 6 - The Confrontation at the GatesBy late afternoon, the front gates of my estate became the epicenter of a frantic, screaming media circus and a family rebellion.

"Ethan! Have you lost your absolute mind?!" Margaret shrieked, lunging forward before two armed guards blocked her path. "Federal agents just locked us out of our penthouse! They towed my Mercedes! They froze my credit cards! How dare you treat your own mother like a criminal over a silly misunderstanding with the help?!" I stared down at the woman who had birthed me, feeling nothing inside—no anger, no grief, just absolute, hollow emptiness. "The 'help' is my wife, Mother," I replied coldly, my voice cutting through their desperate hysterics. "And she is the only reason you aren't currently sitting in a federal holding cell waiting for an arraignment on grand larceny and felony wire fraud charges." Michael stepped forward, his face flushed with panic and rage, trying to put on a brave front. "You can't do this to us, Ethan! We're family! We built this empire together! Without us managing things here, your little restaurants would have gone under years ago!" Marcus Vance stepped into the doorway, holding out a single sheet of paper with a crisp, official smile. "Actually, Mr. Vance, your client is entirely mistaken," Marcus stated smoothly. "Every single corporate asset, bank account, and property deed has been legally sequestered under federal court orders. Furthermore, we have just filed criminal indictments for embezzlement and forgery. You have exactly twenty-four hours to turn over every remaining luxury item purchased with stolen funds before the federal arrest warrants are made public." The color drained entirely from Michael's face, Jennifer burst into hysterical tears, and Margaret collapsed onto the stone porch, finally realizing that their parasitic reign over my life was permanently, irrevocably over.
