Chapter 6 - The Confession in the DarkArthur Sterling didn't look panicked; he looked like a hunter who had just cornered a rat in a pantry. His tailored tuxedo jacket was slightly unbuttoned, and his silver hair caught the amber desk lamp light, casting hard, cruel shadows across his face.

"Well, well," Arthur drawled, taking a slow step into the study, keeping the barrel of the gun leveled directly at Claire’s chest. "My rebellious son’s little waitress bride. I must admit, I underestimated you. I thought you were just an opportunistic gold digger looking for a quick payout."

Claire stood frozen, her hand resting casually against her laptop keyboard while her finger hovered over the final upload execution key. "You never expected me to find my way back home, did you, Arthur?"

Arthur paused, a flicker of genuine confusion crossing his harsh features. "What are you talking about, girl?"

"Look at the pocket watch in your son's possession," Claire said, her voice completely steady, echoing through the silent room with lethal clarity. "The one you dropped on the nursery floor twenty-five years ago when you ordered a nurse to steal your own sick son and burn down this very wing to hide your shame."

The color drained instantly from Arthur’s face. The gun wavered for a fraction of a second before his grip tightened again, his eyes widening in sudden, horrified recognition.

"Julian..." Arthur whispered the name like a curse. "You're... you're that sickly infant. The nurse was supposed to leave you in an orphanage downstate!"

"She had a conscience," Claire said, stepping slightly away from the desk. "She raised me, she loved me, and before she passed away last year, she gave me the tools to track down the monster who tried to burn me alive."

Arthur’s face twisted into an ugly, venomous sneer. "It doesn't matter what you found on that computer. You think a court in Chicago is going to take the word of an ex-waitress over billionaire industrialist Arthur Sterling? You’ll be found dead in a car accident before sunrise, and Alexander will inherit nothing."

He raised the revolver higher, his finger pressing against the trigger. "Goodbye, Julian."

Before Arthur could pull the trigger, the heavy oak doors of the study flew wide open with a deafening crash.

"Drop the gun, Father!"

Alexander stood in the doorway, panting heavily, his tuxedo jacket torn at the shoulder, flanked by four federal marshals and two armed corporate security officers who had breached the estate behind him.

Arthur whipped around, pointing the gun toward Alexander, but before he could fire, a sharp crack echoed through the room.

Rocco—who had slipped in through the balcony doors behind Arthur—swung the heavy steel butt of a tactical flashlight downward with blinding speed, striking Arthur’s wrist.

The revolver flew from Arthur’s hand, clattering harmlessly across the hardwood floor as federal marshals swarmed forward, tackling the billionaire patriarch to the ground and slapping steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

Arthur struggled furiously, screaming curses as he was hauled to his feet. "You arrogant fools! You're destroying the entire Sterling empire!"

"The empire was built on ash and lies, Father," Alexander said coldly, stepping into the room and walking straight toward Claire. "It's time it burned down for real."
