Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Stolen BloodlineBy 2:00 AM, the top-floor executive private suite at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis was operating under an impenetrable, non-negotiable tactical lockdown.

Outside the heavy mahogany double doors, eight armed Vance Security operators in dark charcoal suits guarded every corridor. Inside the sunlit pediatric ICU room, eight-month-old infant Hazel lay resting in a state-of-the-art incubator, her vital signs monitored by New York's top pediatric cardiologists whom I had flown in on my private jet. Her twin brothers, Mason and Bryce, were fast asleep in plush portable cribs beside the window, wrapped in cashmere blankets provided by my staff.

Sitting in a high-backed velvet armchair, wearing a clean wool sweater, holding a mug of warm chamomile tea while her hands slowly stopped trembling, was my ex-wife, Megan Bennett-Sullivan.

In the adjoining executive study, sitting around a broad black granite conference table, were me, Senior Corporate Prosecutor Bridget Colton, and two federal forensic accounting experts.

Restrained in heavy leather chairs in the corner under the watchful eye of Marcus Vance were Tiffany Vance and sixty-year-old Walter Briggs.

Bridget Colton opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers, wiretap logs, and real estate charters flat onto the granite table before Tiffany, Walter, and me:

"Garrett, Megan," Bridget spoke crisp and fast, her sharp blue eyes holding surgical professional fury. "The forensic audit into Tiffany Vance, Walter Briggs, and the Sullivan Logistics Equity Fraud is complete."

I leaned over the granite table, my broad six-foot-four frame squared, my dark gray eyes burning with an unshakeable, terrifying fire. "Explain it to them, Bridget."

Bridget tapped the digital displays:

THE EIGHTY-MILLION-DOLLAR EMBEZZLEMENT: Certified banking registries proving Tiffany Vance and Walter Briggs systematically embezzled $80 million from the Sullivan Family Trust over four years, framing Megan to prevent Garrett from discovering the missing capital during their marriage.

THE FORGED SURROGACY & CUSTODY FRAUD: Intercepted wiretaps proving Tiffany paid $500,000 to a corrupt probate judge to issue a fake child seizure warrant for infant Hazel, intending to use the sick child as leverage to force Megan into permanent silence.

THE SOVEREIGN BLOODLINE TRUST: Original corporate deeds confirming that twenty-six-year-old Donna Megan Bennett-Sullivan is sole sixty percent controlling common equity holder over the entire Sullivan Global Logistics Berths upon asserting her spousal and maternal trust rights.

My jaw locked into unyielding granite.

Megan covered her face with her small, calloused hands, tears of profound relief and thirteen months of buried heartbreak spilling over her fingers.

"You threw me out into the rain, Garrett," Megan whispered, her voice breaking into a ragged thread as she looked up at me. "I slept in a bus shelter while carrying your three children. I sold cans on the highway so my daughter could have medicine, while your fiancée wore your grandmother's diamonds."

I crossed the room in two long strides, dropping flat onto one knee right in front of Megan’s chair.

The feared, powerful titan whose name commanded terror across Midwest shipping routes reached out, taking her soft, work-calloused hands into my broad, warm palms, pressing his lips gently against her knuckles.

"They used my pride and my stupidity to poison my heart, Megan," I swore, tears of deep, genuine remorse brimming in my gray eyes. "They built their luxury on your hunger and my children's blood. Tomorrow morning at the Nashville Financial Assembly... we show them who rules this empire."
