Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand mahogany assembly hall atop the forty-story Chicago Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent real estate magnates, shipping directors, municipal judges, and syndicate capos gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual Sterling-Moretti Logistics Assembly.
Sitting at the head of the raised executive table, wearing a tailored charcoal suit, holding a silver pen, was sixty-four-year-old Arthur Sterling. Beside him sat his arrogant son, Victor Sterling, smirking as they prepared to sign corporate merger papers that would absorb Isabella’s remaining shipping berths into their shell corporation.
"Gentlemen!" Arthur announced into the central microphone, his voice dripping with false authority, "today we finalize the administrative acquisition of the Moretti-Sterling Berths, permanently retiring the spousal trust of my late niece—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the executive assembly hall were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of four hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Alexander Moretti.
I wore a dark bespoke charcoal suit, my broad six-foot-four frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside me, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful figure, her chestnut hair styled in glossy waves over her shoulders, holding four-year-old Sophie by her hand, was Emily Carter.
Sophie wore her pink astronaut boots under a white velvet dress, clutching her plush bear proudly.
Victor Sterling dropped his silver pen.
CRASH!
The heavy pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as his face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Arthur Sterling stood up so fast he knocked his leather chair backward against the wall.
"A-ARTHUR...?! ALEXANDER?!" Victor stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the window. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! MY NIECE HAS BEEN DEAD FOR TWO YEARS!"
"She isn't dead, Arthur," I announced flatly, my clear, deep baritone carrying cleanly across the silent ballroom, dropping the room's temperature to zero. "And ten minutes ago, a tactical team from Vance Security extracted her from your medical clinic in Geneva."
Arthur Sterling’s eyes widened in total, catatonic terror.
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Arthur’s trembling hands:
TOTAL MARITIME RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Sterling Trust Deeds, transferring fifty-one percent controlling common stock equity directly to Donna Isabella Moretti, under the temporary legal guardianship of Don Alexander Moretti.
ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Arthur Sterling and Victor Sterling for Kidnapping, Premeditated Chemical Sabotage, Extortion, Forgery, and $150 Million Wire Fraud.
IMMEDIATE EVICTION: Total forfeiture of all personal properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts registered under Sterling Global.
"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Arthur shrieked, thrashing wildly as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "YOU CAN'T SEIZE MY COMPANY FOR A DEAD WOMAN'S PROXY!"
"She isn't a dead woman, Arthur," I corrected deadpan, stepping beside Emily and Sophie, wrapping my broad, warm arm securely around Emily's waist, pulling her frame flush against my side. "She is my wife. And her empire is restored."
