Chapter 6 - The Steel QueenThree Months Later.

The Grand Sterling Hotel’s main ballroom had never looked more breathtaking.
Tonight, there were no cheap white roses or generic string quartets. The hall was transformed into an opulent masterpiece of midnight-blue velvet, cascading white orchids, and towering ice sculptures. Over five hundred of the world's most influential leaders—foreign diplomats, global CEOs, high-court judges, and media moguls—filled the room for the inaugural gala of the Bellardi Foundation.
And at the center of it all was me.
I stood near the grand marble archway where, just three months ago, my heart had been broken and my life shattered. I was wearing a jaw-dropping crimson silk gown that hugged every curve, paired with custom diamond jewelry that glittered beneath the crystal chandeliers.
Beside me stood Dominic. He looked terrifyingly handsome in a classic black tuxedo, his silver hair neatly styled, his arm resting comfortably behind my back.
The Wexlers were a distant, forgotten memory. Nathan’s father was serving twenty years in federal prison. Nathan himself had survived my bullet, only to be sentenced to life without parole in a maximum-security facility for his role in Julian Bellardi’s murder. Emily was living quietly under a new name in the Pacific Northwest, completely cut off from the luxury she had sacrificed her soul to chase.
And I had become the undisputed queen of New York’s high society.
"You look stunning tonight, Mrs. Bellardi," Dominic whispered into my ear, his lips brushing against my temple.
I turned my head, smiling as I caught the reflection of the massive, custom-cut blue sapphire ring now sitting proudly on my left ring finger—not as a stolen trophy from a killer, but as a legitimate symbol of love and absolute power given to me by Dominic when we were married in a private ceremony in Capri last month.
"I learned from the best, Mr. Bellardi," I replied, leaning in to give him a soft kiss on the cheek.
"Eleanor! Dominic!"
A high-ranking U.S. Senator walked up to us, holding two glasses of champagne, bowing his head respectfully to Dominic before turning to me with a warm, almost reverent smile.
"Eleanor, the speech you gave earlier regarding the foundation's new urban development initiative was absolute genius," the Senator beamed. "The board of directors is raving about your leadership. You've completely transformed the Bellardi name into a beacon of modern progress."
"Thank you, Senator," I replied smoothly, taking a glass of champagne from his tray. "When you control the foundation, you make sure the progress is real. My husband handles the vision, and I handle the execution."
"A unstoppable team," the Senator toasted, raising his glass before politely stepping away to join a group of international investors.
As the Senator walked off, I took a small sip of champagne and looked out over the crowded ballroom.
I saw powerful men who used to ignore me now watching my every move with deep respect and subtle caution. I saw women who used to sneer at my modest clothing now desperately trying to copy my style. I was no longer the girl organizing parties from the service hallways; I was the woman who owned the room.
Dominic leaned down, his dark gray eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that still made my blood run hot.
"Do you remember what you asked me three months ago, right over there by that marble column?" he murmured, a dangerous, sexy smirk playing on his lips.
"I asked a stranger to kiss me," I laughed softly, running my fingers over the lapel of his tailored jacket. "I was looking for a foolish way to make a coward jealous."
"And what did you find instead?" Dominic asked softly.
I looked into the eyes of the man who had rescued me from the ashes, who had handed me an empire, and who loved me with a fierce, uncompromising devotion.
"I found a king," I whispered. "And I took his crown."
Dominic laughed—a rich, deep sound—and wrapped his arm tightly around my waist, pulling me flush against his chest right in the middle of the crowded, glittering ballroom.
"Then kiss me, my queen," Dominic commanded softly. "Let's give them something real to talk about."

I didn't hesitate. I threw my arms around his neck, pulled him down, and kissed my husband with all the passion, power, and triumph of a woman who had conquered her nightmares and built an empire from the dust.
Around us, the crowd broke into enthusiastic applause, but neither of us cared. We were sealed in our own world—a world of dark power, absolute loyalty, and an unbreakable love that had started with a single, desperate request in the middle of a black-tie gala.
