Chapter 3 - The Architecture of Lies"She wasn't a charity case, Mother," Ethan said, his voice terrifyingly quiet. He stepped into the harsh fluorescent light, closing the distance between them until he towered over her. "Her name is Hannah Parker."

Eleanor didn't flinch. Her eyes flickered for a fraction of a second—just enough to confirm what Ethan already suspected.

"Ah," Eleanor murmured, her expression hardening into cool indifference. "The little catering girl. I heard she was lingering around the city. Imagine my surprise that she managed to track you down here. Desperation makes people do dramatic things, Ethan. Falling into your operating theater? Quite the theatrical stunt to secure a settlement."

"Shut your mouth," Ethan hissed, the venom in his tone making Eleanor take an involuntary half-step back. "She didn't track me down. She collapsed during a warehouse shift in Cicero while carrying my children. My children, Mother."

The silence that fell between them was absolute. Eleanor's composure slipped slightly, a sharp line appearing between her brows. "You cannot possibly believe her fairy tales. That girl was a threat to everything our family built. We gave you the records, Ethan. We protected the company."

"You lied," Ethan snarled, pulling a folded printout from his scrub pocket—a preliminary audit of the hospital’s emergency admission log cross-referenced with his personal notes. "You and Father manufactured a scandal five years ago because Hannah didn't fit into your corporate spreadsheet. You forged the bank records. You bought off the witnesses. And you let her starve while she carried my blood."

"We did what was necessary for the Harrison dynasty," Eleanor snapped back, her voice dropping all maternal pretense, revealing the cold corporate predator underneath. "A man in your position cannot be tethered to poverty. Look at her! She lives in the dirt, working warehouse jobs, while you command a surgical wing. If those infants survived, they are nothing more than a liability—a stain on our legacy."

Ethan looked at the woman who had raised him, feeling a profound, chilling emptiness. "Legacy is over, Mother. If Hannah dies, or if anything happens to my children, I will tear the Harrison empire down to its concrete foundation, starting with every patent you own."
