Chapter 3 - The Boardroom ExecutionThe silence in the forty-fifth-floor boardroom was so absolute you could hear the distant hum of traffic forty floors below.

Adrian stared at Arthur, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. He looked frantically toward Greg and Marcus, but his sycophantic colleagues had already shrunk back into their chairs, desperately trying to distance themselves from the radioactive aura filling the room.
"That's absurd!" Adrian finally shrieked, his voice cracking with rising panic as he slammed his palms onto the mahogany table. "I am the Vice President of Operations! I secured three major shipping contracts this quarter! The Board of Directors voted on my promotion last week! You can't just walk in here and—"
"The Board of Directors didn't vote on your promotion, Adrian," a calm, resonant voice echoed from the doorway behind the security guards. "My father did. And my grandfather built the desk you're currently standing behind."
The guards stepped aside, parting the way.
My mother walked into the boardroom. She wore an immaculate Chanel houndstooth suit, diamond pearl earrings, and carried herself with the terrifying, effortless grace of a woman who commanded empires with a single glance. Behind her wheeled a private medical assistant carrying a portable secure monitor linked directly to my hospital room.
Adrian looked as though he had just seen a ghost. His knees buckled slightly against the edge of his chair.
"E-Elena..." Adrian whispered, naming my mother with a voice trembling like a leaf. "What... what is happening? Where is Victoria?"
"Victoria is currently resting comfortably in her private VIP suite at Northwestern Hospital, bonding with her three healthy newborn sons," my mother replied coldly, walking up to the head of the table and taking the primary seat—the chair reserved exclusively for the Chairman of the Board. "A suite, I might add, that is registered under her legal birth name: Victoria Sterling."
The room erupted into muffled gasps.
Greg Miller stared at Adrian in sheer horror. "V-Victoria Sterling? Wait... your wife is a Sterling? As in Sterling Global? As in the family that owns seventy percent of this entire corporate conglomerate?!"
Adrian turned the color of chalk. He stared at my mother, then at Arthur, his brain desperately trying to compute the impossible math of what he had done.
"No... no, that's impossible," Adrian stammered, shaking his head frantically. "She... she worked part-time at a local bookstore! She lived in a modest apartment before we married! Her last name on her driver's license was Smith—her mother's maiden name! She told me her family was ordinary!"
"She wanted to know if you loved her for who she was, or for what my family's name could buy you," my mother stated, her voice dropping into an arctic register that made the temperature in the room plummet. "And last night, you answered that question permanently when you brought your mistress into her hospital room, humiliated her postpartum recovery, and demanded she sign away her children."
My mother tapped her finger twice against the secure tablet connected to my hospital room.
Suddenly, the massive wall-mounted projector screen flickered to life.
Projected in crystal-clear high definition across the entire front wall of the boardroom was the security and audio recording Adrian’s mistress, Chloe, had accidentally live-streamed to a private social media server while boasting about her conquest outside my hospital door—fully capturing Adrian boasting about how he planned to strip me of everything and toss me onto the street.
The audio played loudly across the executive sound system.

“She’s an embarrassment... she’s penniless... she’ll sign whatever I put in front of her...”
Every executive in the room stared at Adrian with looks of profound disgust and contempt.
