Chapter 5 - The Reconstruction of Power(Focus: Claire systematically takes over Bennett Group as the new CEO; Daniel is officially terminated by the board; Madison agrees to a plea deal that implicates Daniel.)

On Monday morning at exactly nine o'clock, the atmosphere inside the corporate headquarters of Bennett Group was completely electric. Employees stood in quiet clusters near the glass cubicles, watching as a team of high-end corporate movers wheeled out the heavy mahogany desk and personal belongings from the executive corner office on the top floor.
Daniel Bennett was officially gone. The board of directors had voted 9-to-0 to terminate his employment contract for gross moral turpitude, structural financial mismanagement, and breach of fiduciary duty.
The glass doors of the main boardroom slid open, and I stepped inside. I wore a sharp, custom-tailored navy blue power suit, my hair pinned back into a flawless, professional style. Behind me marched Arthur Pendelton and a cadre of legal advisors from the Vance estate. The board members, including the aggressive billionaire Henderson, stood up instantly, their expressions a mix of deep respect and lingering anxiety.
"Good morning, gentlemen," I said, taking my seat at the absolute head of the long conference table—the exact seat Daniel had occupied for a decade. "Please, sit down."
They sat in perfect, unison silence.
"Let’s skip the corporate formalities," I continued, placing a sleek black folder on the table. "As of seven o'clock this morning, the Vanguard Trust has successfully purchased forty-five percent of all outstanding Bennett Group public shares, utilizing the market dip caused by the recent scandal. Combined with my family’s private holdings, I now hold a controlling fifty-two percent majority stake in this enterprise. Effective immediately, I am assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of the Board."
Henderson cleared his throat, leaning forward. "Claire... or rather, Madam CEO... we are thrilled to have your direct leadership. But what about the liquidity crisis? The Austin acquisition is dead, and our creditors are demanding immediate restructuring."
"The Austin acquisition is not dead, Mr. Henderson," I replied, a cold, calculated smile touching my lips. "It has simply been moved under the sole ownership of a new subsidiary entity: Vance Logistics Systems. The Vanguard Trust will inject sixty million dollars of fresh capital into the operational lines by noon today. We are completely retiring the Bennett brand name. By next month, this building will bear the name Vance International."
The board members looked at each other, their faces filled with immense relief. The company wasn't going to collapse; it was going to grow larger than ever before—but Daniel’s legacy was being completely erased from history.
Just then, Arthur leaned down, whispering quietly in my ear. "Claire, we just received an update from the federal prosecutor’s office at the Southern District."
I stood up, walking out of the boardroom to take the call in my new private office.
"Claire," the federal prosecutor's voice came through the secure line. "Madison Blake just broke down during her second interrogation session. Once her lawyer realized we had undeniable digital proof of her wire fraud, she agreed to a full cooperation plea deal. She has officially turned over state’s evidence against Daniel."
"What did she give you?" I asked, looking out the massive window at the city below.
May you like
"She provided the encrypted digital ledger showing that Daniel didn't just embezzle twelve million from your family trust," the prosecutor explained. "He used those funds to establish an off-shore shell company designed to illegally short-sell his own company’s stock before the acquisition announcement. He was planning to tank Bennett Group intentionally, pocket the short-sale profits in the Cayman Islands, and leave you and the board with a bankrupt shell. We’ve just issued a federal warrant for his arrest."
I closed my eyes for a single, peaceful moment, letting the final pieces of the betrayal wash away. "Thank you, prosecutor. Do what you have to do."
