Chapter 5 - CONSEQUENCESThe weeks following the Allesian Hearts Gala moved with terrifying swiftness in the financial world.

The news of Julian Duval’s public humiliation and the sudden collapse of his Series B funding exploded across tech blogs, business journals, and social media platforms. Headlines dominated the news cycles:

ASCEND CAPITAL PULLS OUT: DUVAL VENTURES UNDER FORENSIC AUDIT
In his private office in Manhattan, Julian sat in the dark, staring at his computer screen. The room was cluttered with empty liquor bottles and unread legal notices.
The forensic audit initiated by Khloe’s firm had uncovered three years of tax evasion, illegal transfers of company funds into private accounts during his divorce proceedings, and massive wire fraud.
His legal counsel had abandoned him. His board of directors had voted unanimously to strip him of his CEO title. His assets were frozen by federal prosecutors.
His phone rang on the desk. He scrambled to answer it, hoping it was a venture capitalist willing to rescue him.
"Julian?"
It was his mother, Evelyn Duval—a woman who had spent years making Khloe’s life a living hell, constantly reminding Khloe of her humble Oklahoma roots.
"Mother..." Julian rasped, his voice trembling. "Did you find a bail bond lawyer?"
"Julian, the press is outside my house!" Evelyn cried frantically into the receiver. "The bank just called! They are repossessing the estate in the Hamptons! They said your name was removed from the trust! What did that horrible woman do to us?!"
"She didn't do anything to us, Mother," Julian said, tears finally spilling down his hollow cheeks as the weight of his own actions crashed over him. "She just stopped protecting me."
He hung up the phone and slumped forward onto his desk, burying his face in his hands.
Meanwhile, three miles away in a sunlit penthouse overlooking Central Park, Khloe sat at a large oak desk, reviewing investment portfolios for women entrepreneurs in rural America.
The door to the study opened, and Gabriel walked in, holding a tray with fresh fruit and a glass of warm milk.
"You're working too hard," Gabriel murmured affectionately, setting the tray down and standing behind her chair to massage her shoulders.
Khloe leaned her head back against his chest, closing her eyes with a soft sigh. "I'm just closing out the last of the old files. The federal prosecutor called this morning. Julian accepted a plea deal. He’ll serve three years in federal prison for wire fraud and asset concealment."
Gabriel stopped his massage for a moment, looking down at her gently. "How do you feel?"
Khloe was silent for a long moment, listening to the quiet hum of the city outside their window. She placed her hand over her round stomach, feeling a tiny, rhythmic kick from inside.
"I don't feel anger anymore, Gabriel," she whispered honestly. "I don't feel joy over his fall, either. I just feel... free."
Gabriel smiled softly, leaning down to kiss her forehead. "Good. Because we have far more important things to plan than Julian Duval."
May you like
"Oh? Like what?" she asked, turning her head to look at him.
Gabriel pulled a small, velvet box from his pocket and set it gently on the desk in front of her.
