Chapter 3 - SHATTERED ILLUSIONSThe VIP lounge of the Armand Grand Hall was an exclusive glass-walled balcony overlooking the main ballroom. Inside, the atmosphere was quiet, refined, and entirely detached from the drama unfolding below.

Khloe sat on a plush velvet sofa, holding a warm cup of herbal tea. Gabriel sat beside her, his hand resting over hers, his eyes searching her face with deep concern.

"Are you alright?" Gabriel asked softly. "You felt cold when he reached for you."

Khloe took a slow breath, letting the warmth of the tea soothe her nerves. She looked out through the glass window, watching Julian down on the floor below. He was arguing furiously with his chief financial officer near the bar while Dalia stood off to the side, sobbing into a silk napkin surrounded by whispers from onlookers.

"I spent seven years believing I was nothing without him, Gabriel," Khloe admitted quietly, her voice trembling slightly. "When I lost those pregnancies, he made me feel like my body was broken. Like I was a failed experiment he was forced to endure. Standing there tonight... looking at him... I realized he wasn't strong. He was just loud."

Gabriel tightened his grip on her fingers, leaning in to kiss her temple. "You were never broken, Khloe. He was just too small to see what he had."

"Thank you," she whispered, looking into Gabriel's warm grey eyes.

Their relationship hadn't started as a romance. When they first met in London, it had been a meeting of minds—two brilliant strategists matching wits over economic models and corporate acquisitions. But over months of late-night working sessions, quiet dinners in Tuscany, and shared silence, Gabriel had shown her a kind of love she had never known existed.

He didn't want to conquer her. He didn't want to use her intellect to build his ego. He wanted to stand beside her as an equal.

And when she discovered she was pregnant—a miracle baby conceived during a brief, passionate week in Paris before they had even made their relationship public—Gabriel had fallen to his knees and wept with joy, promising to protect her and their child with everything he possessed.

Suddenly, the heavy glass door of the VIP lounge burst open.

"Khloe!"

Julian stood in the doorway, his tie loosened, his hair disheveled, pushing past two security guards who were trying to restrain him.

"Let him in," Gabriel commanded calmly, standing up from the couch.

The security guards stepped back, keeping a close eye on Julian as he staggered into the room.

"Khloe, you have to stop this," Julian pleaded, his voice raspy and frantic. "I know you're angry about how things ended between us! I know I made mistakes! But destroying my Series B funding? Buying my debt? This is insane!"

Khloe didn't stand up. She remained seated, looking at him with cool detachment.

"I didn't buy your debt to destroy you, Julian," she said softly. "I bought it to protect the three hundred employees who work for your company. Because I knew your reckless spending and ego would drive the firm into the ground within two years."

"That's a lie!" Julian shouted. "You're doing this for revenge! You brought Lancaster here, you got yourself pregnant just to throw it in my face because you knew I wanted an heir!"

Gabriel stepped forward, his body imposing and rigid. "Watch your tongue, Duval."

"No, Gabriel, let him speak," Khloe said, holding up a hand. She looked at Julian, her eyes filled with pity. "You really think everything revolves around you, don't you? You think I planned my child—my miracle—just to get a reaction out of a man I stopped loving two years ago?"

Julian stared at her, his chest heaving. "Khloe... please. Dalia... she means nothing to me. It was just public relations! You know how the tech world works! Investors want a young, successful image! I can break off the engagement tonight. We can start over. We can raise this baby together!"

Khloe blinked, completely stunned by the sheer level of his delusion.

Before she could speak, a furious voice rang out from the doorway.

"You can break off what?!"

Dalia stood in the entrance, her silver gown torn at the hem, her face smeared with mascara. She had followed Julian up to the balcony and had heard every single word.
