Chapter 1 - THE GRAND ENTRANCEThe heavy double doors of the Armand Grand Hall swung open with a slow, deliberate majesty.

Inside, three hundred of the most influential figures in finance, media, and high society were swirling in a sea of champagne flutes and classical violin melodies. The air smelled of expensive perfume, aged wine, and cold ambition.

At the center of the main ballroom floor stood Julian Duval and Dalia Fontaine.

Julian looked every bit the master of the universe he believed himself to be. He was holding court with three high-profile tech investors, expanding on his latest venture—an AI-driven wealth management platform—while Dalia stood beside him, tilting her head at precisely the angle that showed off her diamond necklace and the silver crown she had won as Miss Global Elegance just six months prior.

"The secret to market dominance isn't just innovation," Julian announced, his voice smooth and carrying across the circle. "It’s control. When you control the narrative, the capital follows."

"Speaking of narrative, Julian," a senior reporter from The Wall Street Journal chimed in, holding up a recorder, "is it true that Ascend Capital is planning to anchor your Series B funding round next month?"

Julian smiled—a subtle, practiced movement of his lips. "Gabriel Lancaster and I have had very productive conversations. Gabriel knows a winning horse when he sees one."

Dalia giggled, placing a manicured hand on his arm. "Julian always gets what he wants."

Then, without warning, the violins stopped playing.

A sudden, sharp hush washed over the grand staircase, rippling through the crowd like cold water spilling across marble. Conversations snapped shut mid-sentence. Eyes turned away from Julian, shifting toward the upper landing of the ballroom.

Julian frowned, annoyed by the sudden interruption to his audience's attention. He turned his head toward the stairs, expecting a late-arriving senator or a Hollywood star.

What he saw drained every drop of color from his face.

Descending the marble stairs was a woman wrapped in a floor-length dress of midnight-black velvet. The fabric clung to her body with uncompromising elegance, accentuating the high, proud curve of her five-month pregnant stomach. Her dark hair was styled in a sleek, vintage wave, and around her neck hung a single, unheated blue sapphire surrounded by diamonds—a museum-piece necklace that practically radiated immense wealth.

She held herself with a calm, royal grace that made every other woman in the room look like they were merely wearing costumes.

It was Khloe.

Beside her, holding her hand with protective, effortless intimacy, was Gabriel Lancaster.

Gabriel was six-foot-two, broad-shouldered, and wore a custom tuxedo that made Julian’s designer suit look off-the-rack. At forty-two, Gabriel was a legend—a man who bought and sold tech platforms like Julian's for fun, a man whose private foundation funded major charities across four continents, and the primary benefactor behind the very pageant that had crowned Dalia.

"Is that... Khloe Duval?" a woman nearby whispered loudly.

"Look at her... she's pregnant!" another voice gasped. "I thought Julian said she was incapacitated after the divorce!"

"Who is she with? Is that Gabriel Lancaster?!"

Julian’s breath hitched in his throat. His glass of champagne shook so violently in his hand that a drop spilled onto his white cuff.

He stared at Khloe’s face, searching for the broken, quiet woman he had discarded two years ago in Los Angeles. He looked for the desperate wife who used to cry on the bathroom floor of their glass penthouse.

She was nowhere to be found.

In her place was a woman who looked down at him from the top of the stairs with an expression of quiet, absolute indifference.

Dalia’s smile froze. Her eyes darted from Khloe’s staggering sapphire necklace to Gabriel Lancaster’s hand resting securely on Khloe’s waist.

"Julian..." Dalia whispered, her voice tightening with sudden anxiety. "Who is that woman? Why is everyone looking at her?"

Julian didn't answer. He couldn't speak.

As Khloe and Gabriel reached the bottom of the staircase, the crowd parted for them like the Red Sea. Gabriel signaled a waiter, took two fresh glasses of sparkling water, and handed one to Khloe, leaning down to whisper something in her ear that made her laugh softly.

The sight of Khloe laughing—radiant, stunning, and pregnant—sent a surge of blinding, possessive rage straight to Julian’s head.

Without thinking, Julian pushed past his group of investors and strode directly across the marble floor, his polished shoes clicking sharply against the stone. Dalia stumbled slightly behind him on her high heels, trying to keep up.

"Khloe?" Julian called out, his voice laced with a mixture of shock and forced authority as he stopped five feet away from her.

Khloe paused, turning her head slowly. Her dark eyes met his, cool and untroubled.

"Good evening, Julian," she said, her tone as smooth as silk.

"What is this?" Julian demanded, his eyes dropping to her swollen belly before snapping back to her face. "What are you doing here? And... what is that?"

May you like

Gabriel Lancaster stepped forward, positioning his frame just slightly in front of Khloe, his expression unreadable and cold as ice.

"She is here as my guest, Mr. Duval," Gabriel said, his deep voice resounding across the silent circle of onlookers. "And you will speak to her with respect, or you will be escorted out of this hall before the second course is served."
