Chapter 7 - The Masterpiece of Life(Focus: One year later; a beautiful celebration of their son’s first birthday; Eleanor's miserable fate in prison; Adam, Lily, and their healthy baby boy celebrate a life of pure freedom and love.)

One year later.

The sunny garden of our lakeside cottage was a beautiful, vibrant festival of colors, paper lanterns, and children’s laughter. The air was filled with the scent of blooming jasmine and fresh summer grass.

I stood near the wooden picnic table, holding a small, delicious chocolate cake with a single, glittering gold candle in the center.

"Make a wish, Leo," Lily laughed, holding our healthy, beautiful one-year-old son in her arms.

Leo was a perfect, happy baby boy with deep blue eyes and a head of curly brown hair. He was bubbling with energy, his tiny hands reaching out to grab the colorful frosting on the cake, his bright laughter filling the garden with pure, unadulterated joy.

Our friends, Daniel and Dr. Melissa Vance, stood nearby, cheering and clapping as Lily and I blew out the candle together.

After the cake was served, Daniel walked over to me, holding a glass of lemonade, a quiet, satisfied smile on his face. "A final update from the federal court, Adam. The appeals have been officially dismissed."

I looked down at the digital document on his tablet.

Eleanor Carter’s final appeal had been rejected. She had been sentenced to twelve years in a federal penitentiary for conspiracy to commit medical fraud, aggravated assault, and corporate embezzlement, with absolutely no possibility of early release. Her luxury assets had been fully liquidated to pay restitution to the Carter Global employees' retirement fund. She was completely broke, locked in a sterile cell, forgotten by the very high-society circles she had once sacrificed her humanity to rule.

I looked at the notification for a split second, then reached out and pressed the power button, turning the screen black. She was no longer a part of our world. Her greed had been completely erased by the light of a new beginning.

I walked back to the porch steps, where Lily was sitting with Leo, showing him a beautiful, yellow wildflower.

I sat down beside them, pulling my family into my arms. Leo babbled happily, resting his soft, warm head against my shoulder, while Lily rested her cheek against mine, her hand holding mine with a strong, unbroken grip.

One year ago, I had walked into a dark apartment, blinded by jealousy, holding a bruised, bleeding woman in the ruins of a broken home. But tonight, our world was filled with the brilliant, warm light of a summer evening, our son was safe, and we were finally living the beautiful, honest life we had fought so hard to protect—completely free, profoundly happy, and beautifully loved.
