Chapter 6 - Healing the Wounds(Focus: The quiet aftermath of the battle; Lily and Adam move to a quiet cottage; Lily’s safe recovery and the birth of their son.)

Three months passed like a quiet, healing dream.
We left the noisy, chaotic city of Chicago behind, moving into a beautiful, historic cedar cottage on the shores of Lake Geneva. The cottage was surrounded by massive, ancient maple trees and a field of wild lavender, far away from the cameras, the boardrooms, and the dark shadows of the Carter name.
The days were peaceful, filled with the sound of the lake waves brushing against the wooden dock and the smell of fresh, homemade bread. Lily’s hand had healed beautifully, the scar on her palm fading into a thin, silver line that she no longer hid.
It was a beautiful, warm Tuesday evening. The sun was setting over the water, painting the sky in deep shades of gold and purple.
Lily sat in a comfortable, white rocking chair on the wooden porch, her round belly resting comfortably under her yellow linen dress. She looked incredibly beautiful, her skin glowing with health, her hair falling softly over her shoulders.
"He’s active tonight, Adam," she smiled, placing her hand over her stomach.
I walked out of the cottage, carrying two warm cups of chamomile tea, and sat on the porch step beside her. I rested my hand gently over hers, feeling the strong, rhythmic kicks of our unborn son beneath the fabric.
"He’s a fighter, just like his mother," I said softly, kissing her cheek.
"I was so afraid, Adam," Lily whispered, her eyes shining with tears of quiet gratitude as she looked out at the peaceful water. "I thought... I thought your family's money would always win. I thought we would never find a place where we could just be... safe."
"Money didn't build this home, Lily," I said, wrapping my arms around her. "Love did. And as long as I have breath in my body, no one will ever threaten our peace again."

Suddenly, Lily gasped, her hand tightening around mine. But this time, it wasn't the panic of terror. Her face was bright with a sudden, breathless realization.
"Adam..." she whispered, a beautiful, radiant smile breaking across her face. "It's time. The baby is coming."
