Chapter 4 - The Boardroom StormOn Monday morning at 9:00 a.m., the top floor of the Harrison Global Tower in downtown Chicago was a battlefield.

The floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a breathtaking view of Lake Michigan, but inside, the atmosphere was poisonous. Twelve high-ranking board members, three delegates from the Dubai investment fund, and dozens of corporate attorneys sat around the massive mahogany table.
At the head of the table sat Victoria Harrison. She wore a tailored crimson suit, her silver hair pulled into a tight bun, her diamond rings sparkling in the morning sun.
"Where is my son?" Victoria snapped at Nathan's executive assistant, her voice sharp enough to cut glass. "The Dubai delegation leaves for the airport in forty minutes. The signing ceremony was scheduled for nine sharp!"
The assistant trembled, holding a tablet. "Mrs. Harrison... Mr. Harrison sent a courier. He said he won't be attending."
"What?!" Victoria stood up, slamming her palm onto the table. "Is he insane?! This is a two-billion-dollar acquisition!"
The glass double doors of the boardroom swung open.
Nathan walked inside.
He wasn't wearing his usual three-thousand-dollar business suit. He wore a simple navy sweater, dark jeans, and leather boots. His posture was calm, his gait relaxed, carrying a dangerous, quiet confidence that terrified everyone in the room.
"Nathan!" Victoria roared. "Where have you been?! Get over here and sign the Dubai contracts immediately!"
Nathan walked to the head of the table. He didn't sit down. He picked up the thick stack of contract documents, looked at the signature page, and then—in front of the entire international board—tore the documents completely in half.
He tossed the shredded paper onto the table like confetti.
Gasp of horror echoed across the room.
"Are you out of your mind?!" Victoria screamed, her face contorting in rage. "You just threw away two billion dollars! You just ruined this family's legacy!"
"No, Victoria," Nathan said, his voice smooth, cold, and echoing with absolute authority. "I just saved my soul."
He pulled a white envelope from his coat pocket and slid it across the table to the board's chief legal counsel.
"That is my official, irrevocable resignation as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Harrison Global," Nathan announced. "I am surrendering my voting shares to the employee pension fund."
Victoria gasped, clutching her chest, her eyes wide with shock. "You... you can't do this! Why are you doing this?!"
Nathan leaned over the table, staring directly into his mother's cold, calculated eyes.
"Five years ago, you went to a hospital room on the North Side," Nathan said, his voice dropping into a deadly whisper that carried across the silent room. "You threatened a frightened, pregnant woman with legal warfare. You hid my twin sons from me. You made my children eat plain bread while you drank hundred-dollar champagne."
Victoria’s face drained of every drop of color, turning a sickly, translucent gray. "Nathan... I... I did it for the family... she was a nobody—"
"She is the mother of my children," Nathan interrupted, his voice dropping an octave. "And if you ever set foot near Emma, Ethan, or Noah again, I will release five years of your offshore tax records to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Do you understand me, Victoria?"
Victoria fell backward into her leather executive chair, completely speechless, defeated by the monster of her own creation.

Nathan turned around, looking at the shocked board members.
"Good day, gentlemen," Nathan smiled warmly. "I have a date at a playground."
